Automation and globalization did not play a big role within Black Mirror: The National Anthem. Globalization was shown slightly when the information about what the Prime Minister was being pressured to do spread across the internet. Rather than this just being a problem within the United Kingdom, it quickly became something that the whole world had insight on. Through different international news outlets and online platforms people in different countries were reacting to the situation. In terms of automation, there was not much present due to the focus of the episode being on human behavior and media reactions. It did not focus on AI or the possibility of automated machines being in charge of decision making. Overall, while automation and globalization were not the main focus, the episode still displays how people across the world were able to be involved, and how the speed of information being spread almost mirrors what automation can do.Â
