About Allegiant's Baggage Policy

Save Money by Reserving Your Checked and Carry-On Bags in Advance

All Allegiant passengers may bring one personal item on board for no charge. Otherwise, if you choose to bring a carry-on bag and/or checked luggage, fees apply.

Prices at the airport are higher. Visit Manage Travel to reserve your bags before you take off.

👜 Every Passenger Can Bring One Free Personal Item

Your Personal Item (like a purse, briefcase, or a small backpack) must be stored completely underneath the seat in front of you.

Maximum dimensions are 8 in. x 14 in. x 18 in. (20cm x 35cm x 45cm)

🧳 You Can Purchase One Carry-On Bag Per Passenger

Your one Carry-on Bag (such as a roll-aboard or garment bag) must fit in the overhead bin.

Maximum size is 10 in. x 16 in. x 22 in. (25cm x 40cm x 55cm)

🧳 Checked Bags

You can pre-purchase up to 4 Checked Bags per passenger.

Each checked bag can weigh up to 50 pounds (22 kilos).

Maximum size is 80 linear inches (203 centimeters) in height + width + length. Additional charges apply for bags weighing more than 50 pounds, sporting equipment and/or oversize/excess baggage.

Please measure your bags carefully including wheels and handles.

Airport bag fees will apply to oversized Personal Items and oversized or excess Carry-on Baggage.

Baggage

Battery-Operated Mobility Devices

Battery-powered mobility devices (wheelchairs/scooters, etc.) will be checked at no additional charge at the gate or ticket counter. Assistive devices must be stowed in compliance with FAA safety regulations. Note that battery-operated wheelchairs and scooters cannot be stowed in the cabin per FAA safety regulations. If any assistive device is unable to comply with FAA regulations, it may be denied for transport.

All fragile and detachable parts (i.e. cushions, arm or leg rests, and side guards) should be removed and stowed within the cabin in an overhead bin.

In some situations, it will be necessary to remove the battery from the wheelchair or mobility device and to package it separately to comply with FAA safety regulations. Refer to the Mobility Aids section of our Restricted Articles list for additional information regarding battery restrictions.

If you have any questions regarding your specific device, email Allegiant’s Disabilities Team at ACAA@allegiantair.com with detailed information.

Other Assistive Devices

Other assistive devices, such as canes, crutches, CPAP machines, etc. that can be stowed in the aircraft cabin compliant with FAA safety regulations, will not be counted toward your one carry-on plus one personal item limit. If an assistive device cannot be stored safely in the cabin, we will tag your device and safely transport it in the cargo compartment. If any assistive device is unable to comply with FAA regulations, it may be denied for transport.

Restricted Items & Luggage

Are There Items I Am Restricted From Bringing in My Luggage?

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) has an approved list of items that can be packed in your checked luggage or brought on board in your carryon bag.

Please refer to the Restricted Articles table about items you can bring with you.

Hazardous Materials Are Forbidden

Federal law (49 U.S.C. 175) forbids the carriage of hazardous materials aboard aircraft in your baggage or on your person. A violation can result in five years' imprisonment and penalties of $250,000 or more (49 U.S.C. 5124). Hazardous materials include aerosols, flammable solids or liquids, compressed gases, bio hazards, infectious substances, corrosives, explosives, lithium batteries, magnetic, oxidizing materials, poisons and household items, radioactive materials, and other dangerous goods. Examples: paints, lighter fluid, fireworks, tear gases, oxygen bottles, and radio-pharmaceuticals.

Passengers are advised to transport the following items on their person or in carry-on items and are not permitted in checked baggage. Electronic devices containing lithium-ion or lithium metal batteries such as laptops, cell phones, electronic cigarettes, tablets, hand-held games, cameras, watches, calculators, and spare lithium batteries. Medication and keys should also be kept with you.

There are special exceptions for small quantities (up to 70 ounces total) of medicinal and toilet articles carried in your baggage.

Traveling With a Portable Electronic Device (PED)?

Restrictions apply for electronic devices and batteries. Please see the Electronic Devices section of the Restricted Articles table for additional information.

Traveling With Prescription Drugs?

Please carry your medicine in the bag you bring onboard. Allegiant does not accept liability for the loss or delay of medicine in checked baggage.

Bringing an E-Cig, Vaping Device, or Other Electronic Smoking Equipment?

Restrictions apply for all electronic devices containing lithium batteries. Please see the Electronic Devices section of the Restricted Articles table for additional information.

Electric Skateboards / Balance Gliders / Hoverboards

Allegiant will not accept for transport electric skateboards, balance gliders, hoverboards, or self-balancing boards of any type which use lithium metal or lithium ion batteries in either checked or carry-on baggage. This is due to hazardous materials restrictions.

Spare Lithium Batteries

Spare (uninstalled) lithium ion and lithium metal batteries must be carried in carry-on baggage only.

Restrictions apply for all lithium batteries.

Carry-On Bags

Can I Bring My Rollaboard Suitcase as a Carry-On Bag?

Yes! You may bring a small suitcase as your carry-on as long as it is within Allegiant’s size and quantity limits. Fees apply.

The carry-on bag exterior dimensions must not exceed 10 in. x 16 in. x 22 in. (25 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm).

This measurement includes wheels, pockets, handles and decorations. The carry-on bag must be placed in the overhead compartment.

Traveling With Children

Can I Still Bring a Carry-On Bag if I Also Have a Stroller and a Purse?

Yes, each passenger may bring one carry-on bag and one personal item in addition to necessary medical and assistive devices (including strollers), one jacket or coat, a small umbrella, food for consumption en route and/or a diaper bag.

There is a fee to bring a carry-on bag which must not exceed the maximum carry-on bag size.

Can I Take a Stroller and Car Seat to the Boarding Gate?

One (1) infant stroller and one (1) infant or child safety seat will be checked at the ticket counter for each fare-paying passenger at no charge.

Alternately, each fare-paying passenger is allowed to take one stroller and one car seat to the boarding gate. If the stroller or car seat is taken to the gate, it will be "Gate Checked". This means that it will be stowed in the cargo hold of the aircraft and can then be picked up at gate side upon reaching the aircraft's final destination.

Additional Items Allowed on the Aircraft

Examples of additional items that are allowed on the aircraft, in addition to the free baggage allowance, include:

  • Food items for immediate consumption

  • Mobility aids or assistive devices, such as wheelchairs, walkers, canes, crutches, strollers, etc.

  • One box or bag of duty free merchandise

  • A coat or jacket

  • An umbrella

  • One item of reading material

  • A diaper bag

Personal Item Rules

I Carry a Big Purse. Will I Be Charged?

All carry-on and personal items must fit within Allegiant’s luggage dimensions and may be verified prior to boarding. Please measure your bags carefully, including exterior wheels, pockets, and decoration.

Personal items which do not fit completely underneath a seat may be considered a carry-on bag and passengers will be charged accordingly. Excess and oversize bags may be gate checked.

The personal item must not exceed exterior dimensions of 8 in. x 14 in. x 18 in. (20 cm x 35 cm x 45 cm) and must be placed under the seat.

The carry-on bag’s exterior dimensions must not exceed 10 in. x 16 in. x 22 in. (25 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm).

Baggage Fees

Is There a Fee to Bring a Checked Bag or Carry-On Bag?

Yes.

You can choose how you want to bring your luggage — either as checked baggage, a carry-on or both.

Is There an Advantage to Paying for My Bags in Advance?

Yes! Passengers are encouraged to save money by paying for all baggage, whether carry-on or checked baggage, in advance of arrival at the airport.

You can prepay for your luggage and carry-on bags when you book your airline tickets.

You can also add bags, reserve seats, and upgrade to priority access by visiting Manage Travel or downloading the Allegiant App at any time, as long as you have not already checked in at the airport or printed your boarding pass.

Baggage fees are higher at the airport.

What Are Some Examples of a Personal Item?

  1. Male or female purse

  2. Briefcase

  3. Laptop computer

  4. Camera case

  5. Portable electronic devices of similar or smaller size to items listed above

  6. The exterior dimensions for a personal item must not exceed 8 in. x 14 in. x 18 in. (20cm x 35cm x 45cm) (this measurement includes wheels, pockets, handles and decorations).

  7. The personal item must be placed under the seat in front of you.

  8. An oversized personal item may be considered a carry-on bag (fees apply). Please measure your bags carefully.

Smart Bags & Luggage

Carry-On Baggage

  • Luggage is within Allegiant size limitations

  • Any signal transmitting capabilities must be able to be turned off and comply with portable electronic device (PED) restrictions in the Safety Information Card

Checked Baggage

  • Lithium battery must be removed and carried in the aircraft cabin

  • Lithium battery does not exceed 100 watt hours (Wh)

If the Smart Bag does not meet the above safety requirements it will be refused at check-in, and it will be the passenger’s responsibility to arrange for the storage or disposal of such items prior to boarding.

All current requirements on the carriage of lithium batteries apply to the carriage of Smart Bags.

Carry-On Baggage Requirements

Carry-on Bags and Personal Items must comply with the following baggage regulations:

  1. 1+1 Rule: Per TSA guidelines, each passenger is allowed to carry on the aircraft one carry-on bag (fees apply) plus one personal item.

  2. The carry-on bag exterior dimensions must not exceed 10 in. x 16 in. x 22 in. (25 cm x 40 cm x 55 cm). The carry-on bag must be placed in the overhead compartment.

  3. The personal item must not exceed exterior dimensions of 8 in. x 14 in. x 18 in. (20 cm x 35 cm x 45 cm) and must be placed under the seat.

  4. These measurements include wheels, pockets, handles and decorations. Please measure your bags carefully.

  5. In addition, passengers may bring mobility aids or assistive devices, necessary medical equipment such as diabetic supplies, a coat, jacket, diaper bag, or umbrella onboard the aircraft without charge.

Checked Baggage Requirements

  • Each checked bag may weigh up to 50 lbs. (22 kilos) and must not exceed eighty (80) linear inches in height + width + depth (203 cm).

  • Each passenger may bring up to 5 pieces of checked luggage. Up to 4 bags per person may be reserved online. Passengers wishing to check luggage will be charged a baggage fee.

  • Additional fees will be applied for sporting equipment, excess baggage, overweight and/or oversize checked bags.

  • No baggage weighing more than 99 lbs. will be accepted.

Reminder: Save money by reserving your checked and carry-on baggage online at the time of booking or by visiting Manage Travel once a reservation has been made.

What Happens if There Isn't Room for My Carry-On?

In the case that your bag is oversized and/or there is not room on board the aircraft for your carry-on bag, your bag will be gate-checked and you will be able to retrieve it at baggage claim at your destination airport.

If your bag is gate-checked, we recommend you remove any valuables, keys, electronics, medications, fragile items, and items you may need during the flight.

Traveling With a Wheelchair, Scooter, or Mobility Device

Mobility devices will be transported free of charge and can be checked at the gate before departure or at the Allegiant ticket counter. Assistive devices stowed in the cargo area must comply with FAA safety regulations. Battery-operated wheelchairs and scooters cannot be transported in the cabin.

Allegiant strongly encourages passengers to:

  • Arrive at the gate area at least one (1) hour before departure, especially if an aisle wheelchair is needed.

  • Label the wheelchair with your contact information.

  • Remove all detachable items that may separate from the device during flight and take them with you in the cabin to stow in the overhead bin.

  • Remove all fragile items (e.g., joystick, footrest, leg guards) and take them with you in the cabin to stow in the overhead bin.

  • Provide an Allegiant representative with pertinent instructions for handling and stowing the device in the cargo area.

  • If your device weighs more than 200 lbs., please let us know by emailing ACAA@allegiantair.com.

Sporting Equipment

Each piece of sporting equipment will be considered a checked bag with all applicable fees applied per person, per bag, per segment. All Baggage Fees are non-refundable. Applicable fees will be applied for bags exceeding the 50 lbs. weight limit and the 80 inches size limits.

When encased in an acceptable container, the following sporting equipment will be accepted for transport:

  1. Bowling bags, including ball and shoes

  2. Golf bags, including clubs, balls, and shoes

  3. Hockey sticks

  4. Hockey equipment

  5. Firearms

  6. Fishing tackle boxes and fishing rods

  7. Snow ski equipment

  8. Water ski equipment

  9. Skateboards in an acceptable container or case

  10. Archery equipment

Lost & Found

Items found in the terminal or on the aircraft are turned into the local baggage service department.

All lost articles are logged and held at the local baggage office until the passenger claims them, or makes arrangements to have them shipped at the owner's expense.

All items found in the Lost & Found inventory are held for thirty (30) days.

After that time, unclaimed items are forwarded to System Baggage Service for salvage.

All high value items are locked in a secure area whenever possible to reduce the possibility of theft.

All passengers with Lost & Found issues are asked to go to the airport where the articles were lost.

Allegiant + Sun Country Integration

Will My Upcoming Trip Change Due to the Allegiant + Sun Country Integration?

No. Your trip will operate exactly as booked.

Travelers should continue to use the airline they booked with for all aspects of their travel, including trip management, customer service, and airport services.
