PASA Recommendations to Prevent Antisemitism in CHUFSD
Adopt the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism Immediately
Incorporate definition into CHUFSD’s policies and codes of conduct (before July 2025)
Clarify antisemitism and its representation in CHUFSD’s DEI policies.
Consider specific language calling for violence against the Jewish community as part of CHUFSD’s efforts to prioritize a safe learning environment and comply with existing anti-discrimination laws protecting students (including Title VI and EO 13899.)
Educate CHUFSD Including Students, Faculty, Administration/BOE, Staff and Families on the IHRA Definition of Antisemitism and its Contemporary Examples as Outlined by the IHRA
Ensure CHUFSD community understands and know how to apply this definition so as to comply with Title VI and EO 13899. Include professional training as needed.
Share PASA website with faculty/staff and present to teachers at each school.
Review and update planning and management of Cultural Night (May 2, 2025) including specific steps to prevent non-community, political voices from manipulating a CHUFSD community event (to be applied as needed at any CHUFSD event.)
Include PASA perspective in October 7 anniversary planning and potential Day of Jihad (Day of Rage) also early October (10/13/23).
Create Comprehensive Systems to Improve CHUFSD Climate and Become More Fully Inclusive
Develop and maintain policies including a centralized and transparent process for reporting and responding to antisemitism and other forms of discrimination.
Ensure that diverse perspectives and people (including PASA) are involved in decisions and policymaking so that all identities and underrepresented groups can participate (i.e., selection and hiring of DEI consultant)
Include PASA representatives in decisions and conversations around improving CHUFSD’s climate and addressing antisemitism and issues surrounding DEI,
Enrich Student Academics to Better Prepare for Modern Day Realities
Prepare students with different views and backgrounds to engage with each other, encourage mutual respect, tolerance, civility, and an open learning environment, by improving critical thinking, information literacy, and communication skills.
Promote a richer ethic of pluralism, which encourages greater tolerance of and respect for differences in religion, culture, and national origin. To succeed in promoting tolerance, students would come to understand and value these differences.
