Thanks to the generosity of our supporters and the help of our volunteers, we were able to provide 419 children from 137 families with the supplies needed to start the school year strong. A special thank-you to our church partners, Redwood Chapel and Creekside Community, without whose support we could not do this event.
70 amazing volunteers helped set up the school supplies, prepped and served food, offered families Bibles, helped each child get the supplies they needed, and sent each student with some goodies and the Gospel. We pray these seeds of God's truth will continue to grow.
We had about 75 backpacks and some school supplies left over, which we were also able to donate to New City Church in Oakland, who distributed them to students in need in Oakland Unified.
This year, we kept the back-to-school vibe going for Creekside's annual day of service, Love Our Neighbor. Our volunteers helped 12 children and their families choose new Back-to-School outfits and shoes. It was a wonderful time being able to serve our families tangibly, deepen our connections with them, and show them the love of Jesus.
“My prayers are answered when I receive food twice twice a month. It is a blessing to not be hungry. Your volunteers are highly appreciated.”
We just wanted to share that April Showers, an interfaith ministry for unhoused people and one of our ministry partners, has officially gifted us with the shower trailer. We look forward to continuing to bless our community with it.
This year, we're giving our qualified food pantry families a $20 gift certificate for Thanksgiving. The money can be used on a holiday meal or just to buy essentials. We're grateful we can offer our families this gift.
We're partnering with April Showers again to put on a Thanksgiving meal for the community at the San Leandro Boys and Girls Club. We'll be preparing food ahead of time at Creekside on Tuesday, 11/26, then helping serve the meal on the morning of Thanksgiving. Want to help? Contact ken@crossstreets.org.
Every year, we look forward with great joy to the events where we can connect directly with our clients and deepen our relationships with them. And our Christmas event is one of the most special opportunities to do this.
Save the dates to volunteer:
December 21: Join us in the afternoon to set up our Christmas shop at Redwood Chapel.
December 22: Spread some cheer and the hope of Christmas at our distributions event in the morning.
More details will be sent out in the next few weeks.
