With our food pantry experiencing the trickle-down effects of funding cuts, we've had to make some policy changes to make sure we're prioritizing our clients with the greatest needs—serving clients receiving CalFresh benefits, then income-verified clients, then everyone else. Our volunteers have been so adaptable and flexible over the past few months, explaining the changes to our clients with patience and love. We're so thankful for you!
Our Grocery Rescue team picks up unexpired food from local stores to supplement our food pantries, reducing waste in the process. They've been actively building relationships with the receiving managers at Safeway 971, particularly Gordon. Gordon has been a valuable partner at Safeway and recently asked for a CrossStreets shirt to wear to show his support of our ministry. He shared that our team has been reliable and a pleasure to work with. We appreciate you too, Gordon!
A few months ago, we started engaging with the community at Fairmont Tiny Homes—respite housing and services for the unsheltered. On the fourth Saturday of the month, a group has been preparing lunch at Creekside then delivering it to the residents of the Tiny Homes. We're so excited to see how this new ministry opportunity blossoms and how we're able to deepen relationships with people striving to achieve stability.
"Thank you, I can't express my gratitude enough, for being a light on my path during these difficult times. I am very grateful to everyone: those who direct us on the street, those who make coffee in the morning, the children who give us juice, those who check our IDs. All those who give us bags of food. Who send us home with a smile. God bless you all."
School is right around the corner, and families are getting ready to buy new supplies for the new school year. But for our Food Pantry families, with an average monthly income of $420 per person, this is a big financial burden. That's why we do our annual Back-to-School event to provide low-income families and their children with the backpacks and supplies to start the school year strong.
We're expecting 400 children from low-income families at our 12th annual Back-to-School event, taking place on Saturday, August 2, at Redwood Chapel. Most of the families attending are regular clients at our Food Pantry, and all families must provide their household income which must fall within the California guidelines for poverty. We're looking forward to spending time with these families and walking in love with those in need! It's sure to be a fun event, and we'd love you to be a part of it.
Here are the two main ways you can get involved:
1. Donate $30 to cover the cost of a new backpack and grade-appropriate supplies for one child.
2. Volunteer at the event taking place on August 2 at Redwood Chapel! Join us to sort school supplies, greet families, help kids pick out their supplies, and show the love of God to those in need.
"You and your team are not only helping me get by while I am looking for jobs, but also reminding me that godliness, true compassion, and real kindness still exists in this ungodly world. Thanks for making a difference in my life during challenging times."
