Ch5. Whippoorwill Endurance Trials

There's a lot of Lasair in his daughter. Lou never knew him, so he doesn't really see it, which is for the best. I knew him and I see it all, and it gets in the way of me really knowing her as a new horse instead of as his daughter. She's flighty as anything, like he was. Here one moment and ten feet away at a full gallop the second she decides to take fright. She also has his desperate desperate love and need for attention. That almost magnetic pull toward her person which causes her to be up against the gate as soon as you get near her pasture, fussing and begging for a scratch here and a pat there. Mostly she has the same adventure-seeking spirit which made him so great. All spooking and cuddle-begging aside, once she's out on a training trail or in a race she's a little workhorse. The trail leads far, so far she goes.
