Introduction
We have 24 places for Beavers and are often oversubscribed.
We have a waiting list that people need to join to get a place. To join at around age 6, children need to be on the list at around age 4. The youngest they can be is 5 and 3/4. Places are allocated strictly on an age and length on list basis, i.e. for those that are old enough in the order of who joined the list first.
We move people up to Cubs and accept people into Beavers following the school terms.
Here is the info on joining:
We meet on Fridays at 6pm at the Scout hut on Crofton Road (opposite Ormonde Avenue, Crofton Road, Orpington, BR6 8JE) and finish at 7.15.
We run a varied program including walks to the woods, camping, games and badge work. We sometimes ask for help at the sessions, we can’t run the indoor sessions without two adults and need five if we are away from the hut.
Beavers need to wear trainers, no crocs or flip-flops, some ‘play clothes’ and a coat. We don’t have any uniform requirements for new Beavers until they are invested.
We advise the children to bring along a water bottle as they can get thirsty when playing games etc.
We will need a PRINTED version of the attached permission form completed in order for your child to stay on his or her first evening. This paper copy remains in our contact folder so any leader who is running Beavers has access to it.
We would also appreciate the attach the gift aid form being filled out although the £40 a term subs won’t be asked for until he or she is invested.
When the Beavers settle in they will need a scarf and a Beaver jumper. We supply the badges and woggle. Optionally we also suggest the polo shirt for the summer and the Beaver Badge Book. We tend to invest the new Beavers just before or after the half or full term break after they join.
You can get these bits and pieces from the one of the Scout Shops, The Orpington Scout Shop is at our Scout hut - see here for location and opening hours.
Please remember the completed permission form and gift aid form on the first evening. You are also welcome to stay if that will help your child settle in.
Please see documents below, they might take a few seconds to load!
