Beaver Leaders are volunteers and we are part of a team who helps 450,000 young people in the UK enjoy new adventures; to experience the outdoors; interact with others, gain confidence and have the opportunity to reach their full potential.
but we can't do it alone.......
Helping us can be as small or large as you like, as a minimum you will need a DBS check.
And to be familiar with:
To come on a Camp you will need to do these training courses and email the certificates to a leader who can make sure they are added to the system.
Beaver Nights
We don't run a parent rota but do sometimes ask for help to run events.
We always need a least two adults, one of whom must be a scout leader
To go outside we need a 1:6 ratio + a leader. For 24 Beavers that means we need 5 adults,
Young leaders count as children
Camps
Non leaders cannot stay or help at our main Beaver Camp, it is run by District and we have many leaders on site.
We do need help with Crofton Oak Camps ( Family Camp, Beaver nights or Group Camp)
Becoming a Regular Helper
Parents who help more often than just once a term need to have a DBS check
At Beavers we always need helpers and becoming an assistant leader is easy and involves little more than a DBS check and a 45 minute introduction to scouting & safeguarding online course
Help can be just coming along on the nights right through to helping to plan or running a session
Help is appreciated and if anyone would like to join the team please speak to any of the current leaders
What Does it Take ?
Not that much! Talk to the leaders, come along, decide if you'd like to join the team, after the DBS check and the training videos you get the shirt and then you can be invested ( yes, just like all the other Beavers! )
Our Beaver leader team spends:
a day or so a term work on the programme
a couple of hours a week preparing for the weeks session and sending emails
running the Friday night meetings
helping out at Beaver camp and the other activities we do
Assistant Beaver Leaders don't need to do all this! We have had Assistant Beaver Leaders who liked to help on the evenings and not get involved with the rest - this is fine and is a huge help.
Other Help
The wider group needs help from an executive team who help run the group with the uniformed leaders.
We have a Chairperson, Treasurer, Secretary and Group Scout Leader who hep advise us on activities, spending and other matters
