LAB
The School Wellness Project: The major aims of this project are to support student and educator well-being, enhance universal social, emotional, and behavioral health supports through evidenced-based mental health screening and prevention programming, and support schools in data-based decision-making to identify students' social, emotional, and behavioral needs. The information collected is also used to support schools' climate and culture. This project is carried out in collaboration with other LSU School Psychology labs (e.g., the SWELL Lab).
Principal Investigator: Dr. Anna Long
Assessment Development: Our main goal in this area of research is to develop and validate rating scales to measure culturally responsive practices in schools. The Culturally Responsive and Inclusive School Scale-Parent (CRISS-P, initial validation completed), as referenced in https://doi.org/10.1007/s10826-022-02454-3, and The Culturally Responsive and Inclusive School Scale-Student (CRISS-S, in development) are measurement tools used to assess parents' and students' perception of teacher cultural responsiveness in their school.
Principal Investigator: Dr. Anna Long
Project AWARE: The Louisiana Department of Education was awarded the 5-year SAMHSA Project AWARE grant to create trauma-sensitive schools in the state's school systems. The school districts are tasked with increasing access to mental health services in schools. SREC facilitates the collection of project data in order to inform the K-12 schools and their respective districts about new and expanded behavioral health services in schools. SREC leads the LSU team and works with other partners to create professional development and instruction in multitier trauma-informed care for school staff. The LSU team also develops behavioral health screening procedures and referrals to treatment for students. The LSU team includes members from SREC, the Department of Psychology, and the School of Social Work. https://www.lsu.edu/srec/projects/index.php

Namely, the grant will evaluate the effectiveness of the K-5 Second Step plus Bullying Prevention Unit curriculum within Louisiana, Minnesota, and North Carolina public schools.
