Gerber throws six strong, Crimson take advantage early, win 4-1 on Youth Night

It was youth night at Crimson Field and numerous young and anxious future Crimson joined Maple Grove on the field for batting practice before the evening's contest with the Cardinals. Hunter Gerber toed the rubber for the Crimson and pitched six strong innings, giving up just one run on two hits and a walk, striking out eleven. Maple Grove scored two runs in each of the first two innings, scoring more than enough to hold down the Cardinals and take home the Northwest Suburban Conference match-up.
Nathan Schmidt grabbed the first RBI of the game, singling into the left-side hole, scoring Sam Kliber who had led of the inning with a single. Kellen Riskedahl then squeezed in the second run of the game on a beautiful bunt. In the second, a couple of errors produced some runners, a wild pitch scored one run and Gerber ripped a ball up the middle for an RBI single of his own. The Cardinals scratched a run of their own across in the fifth inning on a single, stolen base, wild pitch, and sacrifice fly. After Gerber completed his six innings, Brody Berglin came on in the 7th, allowing one single, but striking out the side for the save.
