Navigating in the New Google Earth is similar to the old version where you can use your mouse or keyboard shortcuts. See the information below to learn more about navigating within the New Google Earth.
Here are some keyboard shortcuts for Google Earth. To access these shortcuts simply tap on the ? on your keyboard and this graphic will appear.
Mouse Shortcuts
Using the mouse or trackpad is one of the easiest ways to navigate within Google Earth. Below are some mouse shortcuts you can use to help work inside of Google Earth.
Zoom In Scroll Up
Zoom In Double Click
Zoom Out Scroll Down
Pan Left Click, Hold, and Drag
Zoom In/Out Right Click, Drag Up and Down
Combining the mouse and keyboard makes it even easier to navigate within Google Earth. Below are some of the more common combinations you can use to move from place to place.
Tilt Hold down the shift key and the left mouse button. Drag the mouse up, down, left, and right to tilt the earth.
The navigation controls can be found at the bottom right of the New Google Earth. See below for a description of each tool.
1. Zoom In/Out
2. Compass - Reset to North or double click to swap with earth to rotate view.
3. Swap between 2D and 3D view. Must be zoomed into a certain extent.
4. Drag onto earth to view street view images from around the world.
5. Click to zoom to your location.
6. Drag to move to new area of the earth. Must be zoomed into a certain extent.
Zoom In/Out Two fingers press and slide up and down
Pan One finger click and hold, drag up, down, left, and right
