FAQs
Do I need to set up an appointment?
For our pregnant patients, we prefer to offer our services on appointment to minimize the waiting time, as patient care is our utmost priority. We recommend you schedule your appointment 1-2 weeks in advance as our appointment availability fills quickly. We do, however, allow walk-ins. Please bear in mind that scheduled visits get priority. For non-scheduled visits, we work on a"first-come, first-served basis.
How should I prepare for my 3D/4D fetal scan?
Drink plenty of water (3-4 liters per day) prior to your session, start hydrating at least 3 days prior to the appointment. UNLESS YOUR DOCTOR HAS ORDERED YOU OTHERWISE. Eat light before the appointment, a full meal means sleepy baby.
What happens if we cannot see the baby during a 3D/4D Session?
The quality of the images mostly depends on the baby's position and the amount of amniotic fluid available. As much as we would love to obtain amazing images for everyone, that is not always the case. If we are unable to obtain any images of your baby's face during your session we will invite you back for 1 more session free of charge. The full session price must be paid during your first appointment.
Does my Medical Aid cover the 3D/4D cost?
No, the 3D/4D fetal scan we offer is an elective ultrasound, meaning done for non-medical purposes. It is not covered by your Medical Aid.
Will my baby's gender be revealed during the scan?
Only if you want. We offer a gender-only session, from 16 weeks gestation, where your baby's gender is provided. In any other session, you will be asked if you would like to know the gender of your baby. PLEASE NOTE: Baby must cooperate. If we cannot obtain gender during your session we will invite you back 1 more time free of charge. Full 2D/Gender session must be paid on the first appointment.
Do I need to pay again when I come for my baby's growth scan?
Yes. We do, however, have discount prices for patients who already had at least 2 scans at CMP for the specific pregnancy.
Does ultrasound have any risk for me or my baby?
Ultrasound is safe for you and your baby when done by a healthcare professional. Ultrasound uses sound waves instead of radiation, it is safer than X-rays. No dangerous risk has been proven scientifically.
