Understanding Creativity in Graphic Design

Creativity in graphic design sometimes can only be considered as broadly creative. (Kilhefner, n.d.) As Kilhefner mentioned, a lot of processes of graphic design are repeated, especially business practices. Although people consider the final work of some business practices to be creative, it is hard for graphic designers to present their creativity for similar projects. Compared to illustration, some graphic design projects are using similar elements for several projects. Designers are trying to combine those similar elements in a creative or novel way. However, it is important for designers to develop their ability to use similar or same elements to create different projects. They are trying to find various combined methods and create the thing that different from traditional thinking.

Several Tips for Becoming a creative designer

• Collect works or projects that inspire you.

• Follow various blogs to access the latest news.

• Keep old work and make comparisons with the time going. You will see the differences and get improvement from previous work.

• Join in different communities and keep talking with various designers.

• Write down some keywords that can be used as elements or in the projects. You can review those keywords when you feel struggled.

• Try to incorporate multiple ideas and connect them in novel ways.
