Thank you for choosing crayonOS! Follow these next steps to get your crayonOS install working within a few hours!
(NOTE: crayonOS currently works for 64-bit systems ONLY. Download given is a LIVE ISO. As of 3/28/2020, there is no installer available for crayonOS, so there is already a default user and desktop set up. Please set aside a hard drive partition with at least 25GB of space to use crayonOS)
To install crayonOS, you will need:
A computer with at least 20GB of storage to download and decompress the .iso file
The 7-Zip Application (Found here: https://www.7-zip.org/ )
A copy of the Ubuntu Budgie Live ISO (Found here: http://cdimage.ubuntu.com/ubuntu-budgie/releases/18.04.4/release/ubuntu-budgie-18.04.4-desktop-amd64.iso)
Rufus ISO Burner (Found here: https://rufus.ie/)
A target hard drive partition/computer with at least 25GB to install crayonOS to
A USB drive with at least 16GB of storage
A USB drive with at least 4GB of storage (Please back up any data on this drive as it will be wiped during this installation.)
Download and install 7-Zip from the link above or click here.
Download and install Rufus from the link above or click here.
Download the Ubuntu Budgie 18.04 64-bit Live Installer from the link above or click here.
To download the Live ISO zip file, click on the "Click here to download" button at the top of the download page or click here.
After downloading crayonOSIchi.zip, open 7-Zip and navigate the directory to your Downloads folder. Highlight crayonOSIchi.zip by either right-clicking it or left-clicking it once and select Extract... When asked where to extract the ISO to, choose to extract the ISO to your at-least 16GB USB drive, then press Extract. (This process may take anywhere between 1-3 hours)
While the file is extracting, download both Rufus and the Ubuntu Budgie Live Installer. When finished, open Rufus and connect your at-least 4GB USB drive. Select the drive you just inserted in Rufus, then under it, select the Ubuntu Budgie iso. (WARNING: THIS STEP WILL WIPE ALL DATA ON THE USB DRIVE. PLEASE BACK UP ANY DATA ON IT.) When ready, format the drive and wait for it to finish.
After crayonOSIchi.iso is extracted successfully and your USB drive is formatted to boot as an ISO, remove the drives from your machine then insert them into your target device and enter BIOS. When prompted, boot from the at-least 4GB USB that was just formatted with the Ubuntu Budgie ISO. Wait for a desktop to appear and select "Try Ubuntu Budgie." Press the Windows key and type in 'disks' until an application search result comes up in the top left corner then press enter.
Select the hard drive or partition you've already set that you want to install crayonOS to, then right-click. From the menu, select "Restore image." When prompted, select the crayonOSIchi.iso file from your at-least 16GB hard drive then press 'Restore" with the crayonOS partition selected (This process may take 1-3 hours).
Once finished, shut down your target machine and remove the USB devices, then turn it back on. If crayonOS is installed on a hard drive partition with an existing OS, Debian systems uses the GRUB OS selector to choose which OS the user would like to use by default. Select "Ubuntu" from the GRUB boot menu or wait for 10 seconds.
Wait for a few minutes as crayonOS loads on the drive for the first time until the desktop screen shows up. Congratulations! You've just installed crayonOS Ichi! Here are a few key things you should know:
