Skittles and Carol Services

The members of Cranleigh Probus A Club and Cranleigh Probus B Club share their events but for administration and handling of bookings, this is divided between the respective committees.

The Following are programmes and activities arranged and administered by Cranleigh Probus A Club

Our club has been organising a skittles evening for a number of years. We have been doing it once a year and usually in February. We used to have the choice between two venues, but now we are restricted to the only venue in our area and it is the Bull's Head in Ewhurst. It takes place in the evening, and usually with a meal with the choice of one of two main dishes, and for those who would like a desert can order it at the bar.

We usually have between 30 and 40 people (including members and their spouses of Probus B. We are divided into 5 or six teams. We play the skittles for one 20-30 minutes session, stop for our meal and resume and finish with another session.

At the end, small prizes are given to members of the winning group, and one prize to the individual with the highest score. It is usually a fun evening and a good mixer. It requires hardly any skill, but one is challenged to do better on their next turn.

Annual Carol Service

For the benefit of our newer members, we have organised a joint service

with Probus 'B' and Bramley Probus for many years, alternating between St. Nicolas Church and Cranleigh Baptist church. This entails putting a programme together. It is a service, not a concert, so there are readings and carols, with a brief introduction and final prayers by the minster.

Afterwards we adjourn for mince pies and mulled wine to the relevant

church room.

Sadly, the Carol Service for this year has been cancelled. Given the most recent news about the exponential growth of the Omicron variant and CMO Chris Whitty's very strong urging not to hold/attend non - essential gatherings, the decision has been taken to cancel the Probus Carol Service on Friday.

We're all disappointed but we hope that members will understand that this was done with reluctance - we are all fed up with being restricted - but we must act responsibly on behalf of our membership and let common sense prevail.

With many thanks to the clergy and all others who agreed to participate,

Malcolm

Golf

We have at least three golf outings a year, to Cranleigh, Rookwood and Clandon Regis, with matches against other Probus Clubs arranged when possible. Aside from the good golf, we get a chance to meet members of other clubs and expand our circle of friends.

21st April (Thursday) - Gatton Manor

12th May (Thursday) - Clandon Regis
