Standard safety measures must be followed:
Bring hand sanitizer.
Wash hands frequently.
OMG Are you KIDDING ME!!!??? There is NO WAY I can get my troop together to be there on Friday night! What if we can only do Saturday - Sunday? Do we get a discount?
Sorry, we can't do any discounts because we have to pay for the camp for the 2 nights, plus all the activities on Saturday. If you choose to to stay all weekend or only for the day it is the same price.
Why is the registration so high? Yikes!
The registration covers the cost of the camp rental, some meals and activities. Unfortunately, Encampment is not one of those events where our troop earns any money but we certainly want to break even. Although a lot of planning and time go into this event, it less about earning money and more about maintaining a tradition of camping as a service unit so we hope you can all join us.
I am a new Leader should I be doing this?
YES! YES! YES! This is the perfect time to get your troop together. Plan which badges and journeys your troop want to work on. Talk with other Leaders! Build camaraderie amongst your troop. Encampment is for new and experienced Leaders.
My Scout has sports game, dance, activity [etc.] on Sunday Morning. What do I do about that?
There are a number of girls that have obligations on Sunday morning. Your options are:
Sleep over from Friday-Saturday and go home on Saturday evening.
Create a carpool that will drive the girls home early on Sunday morning
Skip it
Can parents stay overnight even if they are not a troop leader?
Yes, if they have their 2022-2023 registration and background check up to date with GSHNJ and they are chaperoning the event. .
Troop leaders can add parents as chaperones to meet safety ratios. If parents are coming as chaperones they need to register through GHHNJ and get background checked.
What is the bathroom situation? Can I take a shower?
There are bathrooms near the campsites we will be occupying. There are showers but they are....how shall we say....very campy showers. Feel free to pack your dry shampoo, baby powder and baby wipes as a back up. Cabins have showers as well.
I don't want my scout to go because I am afraid of ticks, bugs, and camping however I do not want to deprive her of a cool experience and make her afraid of bugs and camping as well. I'm trying to raise a fearless girl here! What do I do?
Ticks and bugs exist everywhere. Even in your backyard. You could pick up a tick anywhere. They live in plants, trees and grass. It is recommended that girls bring a bug repellent that includes Deet.
What is the deal with food?
See the Meals tab to determine which meals will be provided and those that will be the responsibility of the troop.
What if a girl changes their mind and doesn't want to sleep over?
We would love if every girl would stay overnight, but some are not ready. If a camper goes home early, there is no refund on the unused time/activities.
What happens if it rains or storms?
If there is rain, we will stay, there are buildings on site and a plan will be in place. No refunds will be made due to weather.
I signed up my troop for Encampment but something "came up" (aka they don't feel like packing/don't feel like going/ they are being winy and annoying and/or a legit excused came up). Can I get a refund?
Think of this as a WEDDING.........A lot of time and energy go into planning these awesome events for our scouts (We're killin ourselves here! This is seriously a part-time job! Like we spend TONS of time and energy planning this stuff! Plus we still have to pay for the campsite and all the activities). We would much rather have your troop join us at Encampment!!!!! If you committed your troop to Encampment, please follow through on that commitment! There are no refunds.
Do I need to fill out a troop trip application for my troop for this trip?
No! You don't! (YAY!) All we need is for you to submit the names of your girls that will be attending (see the REGISTRATION page for details). Once we have all registrations the SU managers will submit one application for our entire SU. One less bit of (very annoying) paperwork for you to do! :-)
Glow Party? What is that?
A fun dance party! Bring your own glow necklaces or glow accessories and have fun with your Girl Scout Sisters.
What should I do, my daughter wants to attend the encampment but no one in her troop is coming?
COME ANYWAY! We will be pairing up troops to participate in various activities. You can either bring a tent or room in a cabin with another troop. You shouldn’t deprive her of the opportunity because her troop isn’t going. This is a good opportunity to meet other people.
Should I still attend if I've never camped before?
Yes! Don't let your lack of expereince impede your daughters ability to have a fun and memorable experience. Reach out to other Leaders for help.
Will this Encampment be like past Encampments?
Hopefully, this Encampment will be as memorable as years past. This is our FIRST TIME running an event of this magnitude so please be mindful of that and pack your patience.
Our troop would like to focus on building relationships at the Encampment so please come with a willingness to interact with everyone and make new friends.
Is there any way the dates can be changed Rosh Hashanah is that same weekend?
Our sincerest apologies for the serious oversight. We truly feel horrible about the scheduling as we would never intentionally schedule an event during a religious holy day. We were advised about Rosh Hashanah after we sent out the original save-the-date notice. Unfortunately, it was too late to make the change as all other campsites were reserved [we checked again to see if there was another open date in Sept or Oct]. We accept full responsibility for our mistake. This is our first year planning the encampment and we certainly didn't realize the campsites are reserved sometimes a year in advance. We will plan earlier next time, and we will be more mindful of all religious holy days when planning the next encampment or event.
