Career Awareness and Preparation
in 2018, PCD was awarded funding from the Department of Economic & Community Development (DCED) through a Business-Education Partnership (BEP) Grant to develop a regional career expo in South Central PA.
With funding secured, assistance from many partners, and a team of event planners, PCD began the process of developing a large-scale event at the PA Farm Show Complex in Harrisburg.
The goal was to introduce all school-aged students to careers in a variety of ways: through an expo-like experience, a series of "learning lab" presentations from industry and school partners, and a post-secondary and training educational/resource area.
With the framework created, registration was opened with the goal of reaching 1,000 students.
Within 48 hours, PCD was forced to close registration with over 3,000 students registered from surrounding schools.
Then the pandemic struck and forced the closure of the event.
PCD has continued to receive ongoing requests from both schools and businesses about reconvening to make this happen.
This has been identified as a key goal for the Cradle to Career Alliance.
