SMALL-SCALE COMPOSTING FACILITY (SSCF)
SMALL-SCALE COMPOSTING FACILITY (SSCF)
Background
The Republic Act (RA) 10068, or the Organic Agriculture Act of 2010, as amended by RA No. 11511, aims to promote and develop organic agriculture in the Philippines. Section 2 of the Act underscores the need for a comprehensive program that supports community-based organic agriculture systems, including farmer-produced organic fertilizers, bio-control agents, and other inputs, alongside a nationwide awareness campaign. Section 4 (c) advocates for the establishment of facilities and equipment to enhance the production and commercialization of these organic inputs.
To this end, the National Organic Agriculture Program (NOAP), through the Department of Agriculture (DA) - Bureau of Soils and Water Management (BSWM) and the Department of Agriculture - Regional Field Offices (DA-RFOs), implements Small-Scale Composting Facilities (SSCF). This initiative provides a technology package including a biomass shredder, African Night Crawlers (ANCs), and vermicompost tea brewers, facilitating the production of vermicast, vermicompost, and vermicompost tea for use in cultivating various crops.
