Ash Wednesday – February 18 at 6:30 p.m.
Come to our special service that marks the beginning of Lent, the period of 40 days before Easter (not counting Sundays). Join us by yourself or with friends and family. All ages are invited, and attire is casual. We will be in the lower-level Fireplace Room.
Ash Wednesday is when "...churchgoers receive ash on their foreheads or the top of their heads, as the wearing of ashes has been a sign of repentance since biblical times. The imposition of ashes is typically done with the sign of the cross, signifying that the recipient is a follower of Jesus. Ash Wednesday derives its name from this practice, in which the words accompany the placement (imposition) of ashes, "Repent, and believe in the Gospel" or the dictum "Remember that you are dust, and to dust you shall return." [An appropriate response is "Amen."] The ashes are prepared by burning palm leaves from the previous year's Palm Sunday celebrations." (Wikipedia.org)
This warm, meaningful service includes communion (optional). We welcome all Christian believers, regardless of your faith background and including children, to the table of our Lord Jesus. This is a meal that nourishes all of us and strengthens us in our relationship with God.
