Useful Travel Operators

Reaching Uppsala from Arlanda Airport

Stockholm Arlanda Airport is located about halfway between Uppsala and Stockholm, and is 35 km south of Uppsala.  It is the closest airport to Uppsala and the most convenient one to travel to and from.

By train

Trains leave Arlanda from Sky City in terminal 5 for Uppsala Central Station.  The journey takes 15 to 20 minutes and costs around 200 SEK (approximately 18€).  A ticket may be purchased in Sky City (see the operator links above) and is only valid for the chosen operator and departure time.  Note that local commuter trains (by SL / UL) and national trains (by SJ) operate between Arlanda and Uppsala: make sure you enter the correct train as tickets are not valid for both operators and you will be fined.

When travelling back from Uppsala to Arlanda you have to pay an access fee for entering Arlanda.  This can be paid either in advance when purchasing the ticket or when entering Arlanda.

By bus

Bus 801 by UL runs between Arlanda and the Uppsala central bus station twice every hour from about 4 am to about 2 am.  You can find the schedule on the UL website and app.  The journey takes about 42 minutes and costs 117 SEK (approximately 10€).  You can pay by card, but not in cash, on the bus, and there are ticket machines at Arlanda terminals 2 and 5 (Quickomat).

By taxi

Taxis leave from outside the arrivals hall, where a dispatcher will help you, and the journey will take about 30 minutes.  The maximum price within the marked zone is 800 SEK (for 1 to 4 passengers) and 1,275 SEK (for 5 to 8 passengers) to one address.  Ask the driver before you start your trip what actual price is in effect.  For travel outside the marked zone, the meter rate applies.  You can pay by credit card or cash.  For pre-booking with Taxi Kurir call +46 18 123456 or email order@ups.taxikurir.se and for pre-booking with Uppsala Taxi call +46 18 100000: the driver will wait for you in the hall after customs.

Reaching Uppsala from Stockholm Bromma Airport

Stockholm Bromma Airport is located 9 km west of Stockholm Central Station and 70 km south of Uppsala.  It takes two steps to get to Uppsala, unless you take a very expensive taxi the whole way:

1. By bus to Stockholm Cityterminalen

An airport bus runs between Bromma Airport and Stockholm Cityterminalen bus station, which is adjacent to the Stockholm Central railway station.  The journey takes about 20 minutes and the timetable correlates with flight arrival and departure times.  The cost is 99 SEK (approximately 8.50€) for a one-way ticket, if bought online.  Buy a ticket from a ticket machine or online at Flygbussarna.  A ticket purchased online is valid for 12 months from the purchase date.

2. By train from Stockholm Central Station to Uppsala

Trains by SJ depart from Stockholm Central Station to Uppsala at least twice per hour from about 6 am to about 11 pm.  The journey takes about 40 minutes and costs about 120 SEK (approximately 10.50€).

There are also slow SL pendeltåg (commuter trains) that take about an hour from Stockholm City Station (not to be mixed up with Stockholm Central Station, but connected indoors with it). You can buy a combined SL+UL ticket for 81 SEK on the UL app.

Reaching Uppsala from Stockholm Skavsta Airport

Stockholm Skavsta Airport is located 110 km south of Stockholm Central Station and 177 km south of Uppsala.  It takes two steps to get to Uppsala, unless you take a super expensive taxi the whole way:

1. By bus to Stockholm Cityterminalen

An airport bus runs between Skavsta Airport and Stockholm Cityterminalen bus station, which is adjacent to the Stockholm Central railway station, about 30 minutes after every flight arrival (the bus waits for delayed flights).  The journey takes about 80 minutes and costs 229 SEK (approximately 20€) for a one-way ticket, if bought online.  Buy a ticket from a ticket machine or online at Flygbussarna.  A ticket purchased online is valid for 12 months from the purchase date.

2. By train from Stockholm Central Station to Uppsala

See above.

Reaching Uppsala from Stockholm Västerås Airport

Västerås Airport is located 77 km west of Uppsala.  There is no direct public transportation from the airport to Uppsala, so you will need to first take the local bus 3 to Västerås Central Station and then a bus or train from there to Uppsala:

By bus from Västerås Central Station to Uppsala

The regional bus 773 by UL runs from Västerås Central Station to Uppsala central bus station and takes about 1 hour 40 minutes.  The cost is SEK 112 (approximately EUR 10) and you cannot pay in cash on the bus.  Find the schedule on the UL website and app.

By train from Västerås Central Station via Sala or Enköping to Uppsala

There are no direct trains from Västerås Central Station to Uppsala, so you must switch lines in either Enköping or Sala.  Search on the SJ website or app for a trip between Västerås C and Uppsala C stations.

Travel within Uppsala

There are UL bus lines everywhere within Uppsala and between the city and its outskirts.  You can find the schedule on the UL website and app.  Buy a ticket on the UL app, or by card on the bus, but not in cash.

Reaching the conference venues at English Park Campus (Engelska Parken)

Search for a journey from your nearest bus stop to the Uppsala Slottsbacken bus stop on the UL website or app, and plan to walk from there to the Humanities Theatre mentioned above (on 29 to 31 May) or to the venue of the Master Class (on 28 May).
