Wonnie Boedhoe is an economist with a broad variety of experience in the field of economic development and development finance. She served as Minister of Finance of the Republic of Suriname and about 14 years at the Suriname National Development Bank, of which 11 years as the CEO.
Currently she is a board member of the Association of Economist of Suriname, and she is a past president of the association. She is a board member of the Foundation for Information and Development in Suriname (SWI) and of the Foundation of Micro Enterprises in Suriname. Currently she also is a member of the AMCHAM SU, Committee for Networking and Private sector advocacy.
She is an experienced development expert in the field of Finance and Development Finance. She provides training in several financial and administration topics, and she provided commercial “in house” training for private corporations and group training in economics and financial subjects such as reading financial reports. Training for administration officers of local government offices in public administration, public expenditures and public budgeting are some other trainings she provides. In 2022 and 2023 she worked as the national finance consultant for the FAO in conducting a feasibility study for the establishment and setting up of a Credit Guarantee Facility for agriculture credits in Suriname. As national finance expert she led a group of financial and legal civil servants of the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry of Finance and Planning of Suriname in establishing The National Development Fund for Agriculture Credits (NOFA).
During 2000 - 2005 she was part of a capacity building project at the ministry of Finance. Her specific role in this project was restructuring the department of public accounting, designing a new general ledger, training employees, and building capacity. As a consultant for Revenue Generation and Public Expenditure Management she designed capacity building policies for autonomous local government financial administrations. This included public budgeting and public expenditure administration procedures and policies.
At the ministry of Economic Affairs she was collectively responsible for policies regarding transport, tourism, industrial development, national & international trade, micro- and SME development., while working at the ministry of Planning and Development Cooperation, she participated in several multilateral and bilateral development programs and participated in the monitoring activities during the execution of the Economic Structural Adjustment Program during 1992 - 1996.
