Jamila Falak is a Jamaican musician, creative entrepreneur, photojournalist, activist and philanthropist.
As Jamaica's only female "Singing Upright Bassist", it is hard for her not to stand out. No stranger to the music industry, Jamila has worked with the likes of Shaggy, Mikie Bennett, Mystic Revelation of Rastafari, Sharon Burke and Cherine Anderson amongst many others.
Recipient of the Prime Minister's National Youth Awards for Excellence, 2019 for Arts & Culture and Nominee of the Governor-General's Achievement Awards, 2023, Jamila made her solo debut in January 2019, releasing her first single “ LA AAA ADY” produced by her mentor and second father, legendary Jamaican songwriter Michael “Mikie” Bennett along with Sonovic which features in the Emmy Nominated film Jacqueline & Jilly produced by Victoria Rowell. Most recently, Jamila features on the remake of the legendary Marcia Griffiths' Electric Boogie produced by Shaggy which is used as the soundtrack of the 2023 JEEP commercial premiered on the LVII (57th) Super Bowl.
Jamila is the founder of the Plant x Play Initiative, a cultivated and cultured community of creatives working towards philanthropy and climate action. She is also the current Regional Youth Leader and Jamaica Team Coordinator at the Caribbean Philanthropic Alliance. For her efforts locally, she was recently awarded the Forest Heroes Awards 2022, Youth in Forestry Award by the Forestry Department.
The possibilities are endless for this promising young rising star. This warm, humorous, archaic soul aims to be a torchbearer for positivity and love; and gladly takes the responsibility of gearing others to seek the greatness that is waiting within.
