Dr. Una May Gordon is an experienced Climate Change professional who believes strongly that development is about people. Her public advocacy & promotion of women's leadership in all spheres of life is unmatched.
After years of working in the field of international development and with the private & public sectors across the Caribbean Region she now spends her time as a consultant and senior climate change and resilience advisor to institutions and companies at global, regional & national levels.
For many years, Una May served as the government of Jamaicas’ focal point to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) where she also functioned as head of delegation and chief negotiator to many Conference of the Parties (COP). For COP 23 & 24 she served on the Bureau, a role which required her assuming functions as vice president of the COPs. In this role, she was tasked as co-author of the now accepted code of ethical conduct which ensures that all delegates & especially women are treated fairly & justly in the climate negotiations space.
Una May is recognized globally for her innovative leadership, her mentorship of young people and for her effective cross-cultural communication and networking skills. She is an efficient fund raiser who believes in true collective action.
She is a founding member of the UNFCCC Network of women leaders and serves on a number of boards of organizations & institutions including the Caribbean Women in Leadership & the Recycling Partners of Jamaica. She is the current Chairperson of the Board of Governors of the Caricom Community Climate Change Centre.
She hold a Master’s degree in Environmental Sciences from Wageningen Agricultural University in the Netherlands and a Certificate in Organizational Leadership from the INCEA Business School. She has been awarded an Honorary Doctorate of Laws in Humanity from the United Graduate College & Seminary mainly for her leadership, advocacy & work with rural communities throughout the Americas in the promotion of women & youth leadership.
