FAQ
What is Field Day? Field Day is the best day of the year! Think of it as an end of the year celebration for all of our students! We will have inflatable games, water slides and obstacle courses as well as throwing, running and scooterboard games.
Do I have to come to Field Day in order for my child to participate? Nope! But you are more than welcome to join us to watch your child during Field Day. Please pre-register by May 7 using this link: Be sure to have your ID with you. If you did not pre-register, you will need to sign in through the front office.
What if we didn't order a Field Day shirt? Can they still participate? Absolutely! Just try to send them in a shirt that matches their grade level's color, which you can find above on the schedule. The grade level shirt color corresponds to the color on the schedule below. We do not have any extra shirts available to sell.
Speaking of Field Day shirts, when will we get those? Once Field Day shirts are delivered to the school we will organize them and get them to homeroom teachers. We will send out a message when they are going home so you can keep an eye out for them. Parent shirts will be sent home with students as well. Be sure to check backpacks!
Where do I go when I get there? You MUST check in through the front office. This is district policy. Once you check in you will be given a sticker that you must wear. If you are not wearing a sticker, staff will send you around the outside of the building to the front office to check in or to get a replacement sticker.
What about parking? Is there going to be enough room? Field Day tends to be a very popular event and it is very likely that we will run out of parking throughout the day as people come and go. Be prepared to park in the neighborhood and walk around to the front office.
What if I want to take my child home? As always, you MUST check your student out through the front office. If you are planning to take them home, please let their homeroom teacher know so the teacher can give you a Golden Ticket. You will need to give this ticket to the front office staff. Please be sure to sign it as well. You will need to leave through the front doors of the school.
What should my child wear? Shorts and their Field Day shirt (if they have one) and tennis shoes. We don't recommend jean shorts because those are super uncomfortable when they get wet. Swim trunks are perfect since they dry quickly and meet school dress code. Girls can wear swimsuits under their clothes so that they are more comfortable (it is not required) but they must keep their shirt and shorts on throughout the day. Feel free to wear a hat and sunglasses but students will be in charge of keeping track of them! Also, feel free to send a change of clothes for after field day. A Walmart or Target bag is a great way to store wet clothes and towels after field day. Crocs, flip-flops, water shoes or sandals are not safe and students will not be able to participate in them.
What should I wear? Comfortable, school appropriate clothing.
Wait....did you say they're gonna get wet? Yep! We will have a zone that consists entirely of water events. Of course, any student who does not want to get wet does not have to! We will have a space for them to chill and do some non-water activities while their grade is at that zone.
Should I send a towel? Yes, please! Be sure to write your child's name on the tag so they can be reunited if it gets lost. Towels will stay in the classroom and be used to dry off and change after field day.
But what if it rains? Texas weather is fickle. A little rain we can deal with and things will go on as planned. However, if we anticipate getting storms or lightning, the outside zones will be taken out of the rotation and students will only do their indoor rotation. Unfortunately, we are not able to schedule a make up day. We know this isn't ideal but the safety of our students is our top priority. If we anticipate this happening we will send a message out via Parent Square on the day before..
Along the same lines, what if it is an unhealthy ozone day or a heat index over 100 degrees? The safety of our students and staff comes first so we will follow NISD weather guidelines and will modify the schedule for the day if needed.
Can younger siblings come? Sure! But please be aware that the events and equipment are only for our students so no guests; parents or siblings or otherwise, are allowed to participate in Field Day. This includes our PTA provided popcicles. DO NOT take one for yourself or a sibling.
What time does my child's grade level start and finish? Please check out the schedule above. Print it or screenshot it if you'd like!
Do I need to have a background check completed to register? No. Since you will not be interacting with or helping any students other than your own, you do not need to have a background check. You do need to have your license available in case it needs to be run through our Raptor system.
Do you need volunteers? We do not anticipate needing volunteers this year.
Can a teacher or another parent put sunscreen on my child? Please put sunscreen on your student before they head to school. Due to potential allergies, teachers, students or other parents are not allowed to apply sunscreen to students. Students may apply their own sunscreen brought from home but cannot share it.
