2022年1月、北海道の酪農家さんでもうすぐ出荷予定だった元乳牛ポテコロを保護しようと、餌代を支援したところから、ポテコロプロジェクトは始まりました。当初の予定ではポテコロ一頭の保護からはじめ、段階的に保護する牛の数や施設を増やし、さらにはファームトランジションの実現を目指していました。ところが、酪農業界の財政難によってその酪農家さんが廃業（離農）を余儀なくされた為、ポテコロちゃんとブンちゃん2頭は北海道から新天地、福島県の「動物共栄の里山」へ引っ越して来ました
「動物共栄の里山」では牛が雑草を食べ、肥料を播き、蹄で耕してくれる、その場で全てが完結するサステナブルな完全循環農法をしています。草100%のグラスフェッド牛ふんは、堆肥として土に分解され、おいしい野菜を育ててくれます
12月のクラウドファンディングでの皆さんの暖かいご支援のお陰で2頭の運搬費や土地一部分の柵代などの費用を賄う事が出来ました。みなさまのおかげで、2頭共、新天地で新たな牛生を送る事が出来ています。ポテコロちゃん、ブンちゃんは放牧地を高速で走り、飛んだり跳ねたりして元気いっぱいで遊んでます
しかし、トラクターの費用や牛舎代には届かず、餌代も高騰していることから、資金調達はまだまだ必要な状況です。

保護牛ポテコロちゃん
Our Potekoro Project began in January 2022, as we rescued Potekoro, a retired dairy cow that was soon to be sold to a market by a dairy farmer in Hokkaido Japan. We funded the cost of feeding in order to protect her. The original plan was to begin by rescuing one cow, Potekoro and gradually increase the number of cows to be rescued, and eventually transition the farm to another business. However, due to financial difficulties in the dairy industry, the dairy farmer became unable to continue the business. By the end of the year, the farm where Potekoro currently lives will no longer exist.
Potekoro and Bun-chan have safely moved from Hokkaido to their new home at “KYOEI SATOYAMA, farm" a sustainable animal coexistence farm in Fukushima. The farm uses a sustainable closed-loop farming system where cows eat grass, fertilize the soil, and plow the land with their hooves on-site. The 100% grass-fed cow manure is then decomposed into soil fertilizer, which is used to grow delicious vegetables.
Thanks to the warm support from everyone who contributed to the crowdfunding campaign in December, we were able to cover the transportation costs for both cows, as well as the fence costs for part of the land. Thanks to everyone's help, Potekoro and Bun-chan can now enjoy their new life in their new home, running around and playing happily in the pasture.However, we still need funding for a tractor, cowshed, and rising feed costs.
We are continuing to receive support from the part of Vegmama Study group’s membership fees, but individual support is also appreciated.

動物たちにびのびと生きてほしい、と願う人はきっとたくさんいるはずです。世界を見渡すと畜産農家さんが事業転換する例や、農場の動物たちを受け入れ、最期までお世話をする施設（farm sanctuary）の数は増えています。日本では特に体の大きな動物たちのお世話をできる場所はまだまだ少なく、いますぐに大規模な転換はかなわないかもしれません。でも、できるならば一頭でも保護する。そうして、私たちは一歩一歩、動物たちとの共生の道を歩みたいと思っています。
We believe that there are many people who wish for animals to live fulfilling life. Across the world, more and more animal farmers are transitioning their businesses, and the number of farm sanctuaries is increasing. In Japan, there are still very few places that can take care of large animals, and a drastic change may not be possible right away. But if we can, we will rescue one animal at a time. In this way, we will continue to take step by step the path of coexistence with animals.
