DOEA has launched two new initiatives to assist in combatting social isolation for individuals who are living at home right now with dementia

• • The first initiative is to deliver 1,000 pre-loaded MP3 players to socially isolated seniors and adults living with Alzheimer’s Disease and Related Dementia (ADRD). The gift of music is made possible through a donation from the Florida Alzheimer’s Association. Each unit will be mailed to the caregivers and families of those living with ADRD.

  • The second initiative is to distribute therapeutic robotic pets to socially isolated seniors and adults living with ADRD. The interactive pets help combat social isolation and depression among older individuals and people living with ADRD by improving overall mood and quality of life. Family caregivers may experience a reduction in stress, and caregivers benefit when companion pets allow increased engagement with the older adult and their environment.

PDIS in Orange County provides young children (up to 5 years old) with developmental evaluations, training, and resources to help the families regardless of their immigration status. You do not need a referral to take your child there for an evaluation.
