The SHADES started in 1978 in Coventry, when three 13 year old school boys, John, Simon & Peter formed a band called The Shades. With one cheap electric guitar, one even cheaper classical guitar and a cardboard box for a drum, they made tapes in bedrooms, playing I am the Walrus and A Day in the Life, soon writing their own songs, influenced by the Rut...Beatles & Syd Barrett. Expanded to become Hungry I - 20 Days - My Favourite Things
SHADES OF NIGHT c1974 Reported in Hobo - "SHADES OF NIGHT - have split up." Also they were advertised in HOBO Magazine in 1974 as a Pop Band c/o Dave, 149, Princethorpe Way. Sax p[layers Joe Reynolds and Mick Broadhurst were involved with this band I believe.

STEVE TAYTON AND HIS JAZZ QUARTET This outfit played the Coventry Arts Umbrella August 1970 among others of course. Steve Tayton played in Staveley Makepiece (of which Lieutenant Pigeon was an off shoot. He also played in Coventry Jazz rock band Khayyam ( who toured Europe in 1973 / 4 and played Ronnie Scotts in London and The Earlsdon Cottage in Coventry. Later he played with Pzazz and a with a lot of top artists listed on his website.
