Can I have course evaluations for my class of 5 students or less?

Official course evaluations are not typically provided for classes with 5 or fewer students due to issues of poor statistical reliability and student anonymity concerns.

You are able to conduct an unofficial evaluation of the course in order to obtain student feedback for the purposes of instructional improvement; please see this Slide Deck for several electronic options.

Why don't my students have an evaluation for my course showing on their Canvas landing page?

Not all classes are evaluated.  Classes with less than 6 students are typically not evaluated (except for music classes). Also, some types of classes, such as performance workshops, fieldwork, internships, reading and conference, independent study, research and creative activity, and thesis courses are not evaluated.  If your students did not receive an evaluation for a class and you think you should have, please email survey@chapman.edu with the name of the class and we will research the course and get back to you within one working day.
