This is my take on "The Home Edit" - I'm calling it "The Clean Edit: Bathroom Edition" -- keep in mind that these are my words/thoughts and there are some posts that need editing on your part (adding in your website as an example). I also created my own photos/assets/content that you can easily do. See my "create content" list below. People want to see YOU! Take 30 minutes to create content of your own before and afters, yourself purging your cupboards, organizing, and revealing your final project...I promise you'll see more interaction!
This is a great opportunity to invite a cleaning product collaboration! Ask him/her to invite guests and to go LIVE to explain the cleaning products they offer for bathroom cleaning, personal care products, etc.
- Create the Facebook GROUP 2-5 days prior to the event and never more than that. Most people forget about it outside that window. It's virtual, so people can check in as they have time. If YOU are hosting this within your OWN Facebook Group, you can "create an EVENT" within your group, invite your group to the event, and use the event for the posts.
-This script can be posted in a two-day or three-day event ((see agenda below)
-Get your hostess involved (if you have one)! I personally LOVE sending my hostesses some of Beautycounter's samples, a cosmetic pouch, and some Neverlist cards that they can pass out/refer to during the event so that they are excited for BEFORE the Pop Up. I always tell my hostess her only job after inviting to the event is to comment/engage with her crowd. I do the rest!
-My event incorporates giveaways --> The first is for participation in commenting before and during the pop up. The second is divided into one of the following:
If I'm doing a one-night event: a "gift" for anyone ordering THAT NIGHT after the pop up. This creates a bit of urgency when the information is "fresh" and in the forefront of their minds!
If it's a two-day or three-day event: a "grand prize" for anyone making a $xx purchase (you pick the number whether it's $50+, $75+, $100+...)
-Read each post for adding in your website, hostess' name or other personal info that will change each time.
- I change, add/subtract posts for my audience. If people are super pumped about the cosmetics, I will maybe add in another post about them.
-Following any orders, it's a great idea to send handwritten Thankyou notes, a look book and hostess reward pamphlets to each guest!
-SHOW YOUR FACE! No one is looking for the perfect words, the perfect presentation: be authentically you and connect with your guests on a personal level. If you're uncomfortable going LIVE, practice first. Showing your personality helps to build trust and a relationship with those in the event.
Sample Group/Event Description:
Are you like me and haven't looked at the back of your bathroom cabinets in... hmm ever?
Are you like me and have "stuff" in your bathroom without a real home or place for them?
Are you like me and have product stored away in your bathroom that you haven't checked in.. um... a while? THIS EVENT IS FOR YOU!
This weekend is your chance to "edit" your bathroom, and everything in it.
Do you have old products pushed back to the of the cupboard forgotten about?
Make up from nearly a decade ago that you just haven't worn or wanted to throw out?
This weekend is your chance to go through your bathroom cupboards, purge, open some space for new, fresh items.. that aren't expired
Spend an hour or two going through your space and cleaning it out, and you will feel SO much better.
The time is flexible this weekend.. no need to start bright and early on Saturday morning, maybe have a cup of coffee, watch an episode of Home Edit on Netflix for inspiration before you jump right in!
Yes...there will be giveaways, so stay tuned!!!
Hello! I'm ____ -- your Beautycounter educator and consultant -- I'm so thrilled to be here with you for the next few days! HOSTESS' NAME is so excited to share her love for clean products (and her journey in clean) with you!
I want to know about YOU! Are you:
A. A current client that's ready to take a deeper plunge into "clean"!
B. New to Beautycounter and excited to learn what the clean buzz is about!
C. Looking to begin the "clean journey" but just no sure where to start!
ALSO: This is your first entry into our participation drawing throughout our next few days together! Every comment you leave on posts will count as an entry in to our draw for ____!
Ready, set, go!
Day One: Purge & Clean
Day Two: Sort & Organize
Day Three: The Reveal!
ENGAGEMENT: What are you MOST excited for?
Step 1: Pull everything out of your cupboards. YES, everything! Even the hidden stuff in the back, pull it out.
Step 2: Categorize what you have. Hair, make up, first aid, dental, shampoos, soaps, feminine products etc. You get the picture.
Step 3: PURGE. Check your expiry dates! Is that allergy medicine you've had hiding in the bottom of a basket even good anymore?
Is there a little bit of soap left in one container. Do you have makeup from a decade ago lingering in your make up bin?
It's time to get serious. What do you actually use?
Step 4: Designate a spot for EVERYTHING! If you know exactly where things are, you are more likely to put them away at the end of the day, decreasing clutter. You spend less time looking for things. The Home Edit ladies like things to be organized in Rainbow theme, in their clean baskets. You do you! Follow your heart and style on how you want things organized.
Step 5: Label. This is a personal preference if you want to label your products. Clea and Joanna love their labels, and maybe it will help your significant other or kids keep things put away. Up to you!
Let's get at it! We'll clean up the mess, so get messy!
Let’s DO this!!
Grab a coffee. Choose a space
SNAP A BEFORE PHOTO. Grab some laundry bins & garbage bags
LET’S GET TO IT!
I love both Marie Kondo and The Home Edit - my mom and sister, Lindsay, took a Feng Shui Master course a few years ago and have been slowly teaching me their ways... What's your fave?
Marie is all about what bring's you joy, and holding onto that, which I love. My bathroom does not bring me a whole lot of joy (my kids have been destroying it for years, but maybe, just maybe, knowing what's under my bathroom sink and knowing it's ORGANIZED will bring me that JOY!)
GIVEAWAY!!
Post your BEFORE photo in the comments below!
You’ll be entered to win a $20 Amazon gift card during our BEFORE/AFTER segment!
Did you know that Clea and Joanna from The Home Edit collaborated with Beautycounter?
I had the opportunity to see these two incredible women live at Beautycounter’s leadership conference last year and it was so inspiring!!
You can read more here in Beautycounter’s blog
When in doubt...toss it out!
Check those ingredient labels against Beautycounter's "Neverlist" as a quick reference. Can't find the ingredients? Look up your product online...if the brand doesn't list the ingredients...toss it out!
We're all about transparency around here!
Some products you find will have specific expiry dates (ie. sunscreens, medications), but others will be more vague. It's so important to remember that all products expire, whether that be makeup, creams or hair products.
Can you find an expiration date on your products?
If you see an open jar image, with a number and M symbol, that is your Period After Opening Symbol (PAO). This is how many months you have between the day you open it and the day it expires. *** NOT your purchase date!
Expired make up, can harbour bacteria which can lead to:
- acne
-rashes
-staph and eye infections
-sties
YUP! GROSS...
We don't want any of that, so toss expired makeup, and remember when you opened your products. It can be as simple as a sharpie date on the bottom of your containers to remind you.
Here are some basic products along with their expiry dates:
Lipstick/Lip Gloss - 12 months
Foundation/Concealer - 6 -12 months
Mascara - 3 months
Liquid Eyeliner - 3 months
Nail Polish - 1-2 years
Eye Shadow - 3-6 months
Blush/Powder products - 2 years
Questions? Ask away!
Now that everything is pulled out and you have discarded the old and unused stuff, how are you going to store your supplies?
The big trend right now, is clear acrylic boxes so you can see everything. The Home Edit brand can be found at Canadian Tire, but Dollorama/Amazon have some pretty great options! I'm a huge fan of Amazon Prime's "same day delivery" - one of the perks of city living
Personally, I'm not going to run out to the store to buy things to store my product. I will use what I already have and make do. I have jars, baskets, and little boxes that I can re-purpose for storage. That's what will work for me right now and is within my budget, so do what's best for you!
The most important part of storing your things, is having your categories stored together, so you know where to find your stuff.
For example, all medications should be stored together in one basket or box, preferably high up, out of the reach of children. Hair products and supplies can be stored together in another section.
Make the bathroom flow work for you.
Don't forget to add your labels if you want them!
Now...Let's get to it!!
What exactly are you keeping in your shower?
Marie Kondo recommends that to avoid clutter, every time you leave the shower you should take your products, dry them off, and put them away. I’m not sure if anyone has the time for that?
I suggest to keep a clutter free shower, leave only your necessary products that you use every day. I have shampoo, conditioner, his and hers body soap, and a razor.
If you have and/or use more than one type of shampoo or soap, there really is no need to keep all your products in the shower. The continual exposure into heat and moisture is bound to affect their quality. Rotate through your products as you like, but if you aren’t using them, keep them in your designated cupboard space.
When was the last time you cleaned your make up brushes?
At a minimum you should be cleaning your brushes every 3 months, depending on usage. If you use your brushes daily to apply makeup, more frequent cleaning will be needed. Used brushes can accumulate bacteria, dead skin cells, and oil .. all which can clog your pores and lead to break outs.
Check out these easy ways to clean your brushes, with household ingredients.
1. Vinegar and Lemon
Pour 2 tbsp of white or apple cider vinegar into 1 cup hot water. Swirl and rinse with lukewarm water. Rub against a lemon to counteract the vinegar smell.
2. Baby Shampoo
Wet your brush with lukewarm water, add a bit of baby shampoo, rub it in circular motions, repeat until squeaky clean.
3. Olive Oil - a cleaning agent and conditioner
This method works best on smaller brushes. Submerge brush into bowl of olive oil, massage oil into bristles with fingers under a running faucet.
4. Charcoal Cleansing Bar - swirl brush over charcoal bar, rinse, allow to air dry
To deep clean a little more, you can whisk olive oil and baby shampoo together to create a deep cleaning concoction.
Explain any giveaways, how your guests can "get involved" as a client, member, host, or consultant, and thank them for joining!
Thank you, thank you, thank you!
It truly has been so much fun helping you on your clean journey! -- I hope that you're leaving our event having learned something new about the products you use daily, how you feel in a "clean" space, and what to look for in the ingredients in your products.
