People pleasing can be sneaky.
When you are making decisions, do you often try to avoid disappointing someone?
Do you have a difficult time saying yes to things that you truly want?
Do you find yourself asking ”am I doing this right?”?
Are you looking to make sure everyone in your inner circle agrees?
These are all sneaky ways that people pleasing can sneak into our decision making.
You can feel paralyzed when confronted with something you truly want to do because you have to make sure no one is disappointed, you’re doing it right, or that you’re making the right decision.
This is common.
It often shows up when you want to do something big for yourself. Maybe you are deciding on a new yoga studio. A trip without the kids. Or investing in your business.
Here’s the thing, since your conditioning as a ‘people pleaser’ is perhaps longstanding, you sometimes don’t see it.
So, the first step is always to take a minute and reflect and become aware. Second step I do with my clients is to take away the scary things. It sounds like this - if no one was disappointed, everyone agreed with you and you 100% knew you were making the right choice, what would you want to do?
Your answer to that question will be what you most desire. And then we work through those self imposed obstacles. Over time, you start listening to your inner voice and start making decisions that serve EVERYONE. Including you.
This work is the most fun, empowering thing you can do for yourself.
