Preference is given to first-generation students with financial need. There is also a preference for (not exclusively) for a student with freshman or sophomore status (fewer than 60 credits). The award can be given to an undergraduate or graduate student whose submissions were written for a course, an interdisciplinary research paper or project, or on their own".
