During my practice teaching internship at Nursery High School, I encountered numerous challenges and learning opportunities that significantly enhanced my understanding of PPST Domain 1, which focuses on content knowledge and pedagogy. This domain emphasizes the importance of teachers mastering their subject matter and employing effective teaching strategies to facilitate student learning. My experiences in creating lesson plans, designing assessments, and delivering instruction underscored the critical role of pedagogical knowledge in addressing diverse student needs.
One of the most significant experiences that aligned with Domain 1 was my struggle to create lesson plans and examinations that adhered to Bloom’s Taxonomy. Initially, I found it challenging to align my questions with the cognitive levels outlined in the Table of Specifications (TOS). However, through perseverance and guidance from my cooperating teacher, I learned to craft questions that were not only objective but also promoted higher-order thinking skills. This experience deepened my understanding of how to structure assessments to measure student learning effectively.
Another key moment was my final demonstration teaching, where I had to deliver a broad lesson within a limited time frame. Despite my initial nervousness, I applied pedagogical techniques such as integration and student-centered activities to make the lesson engaging. The positive feedback from my panelists affirmed the importance of thorough preparation and adaptability in teaching. Additionally, creating modules and summative tests for PE and Health—a subject outside my major—taught me the value of flexibility and creativity in pedagogy. I experimented with different formats and technologies, such as Canvas, to enhance my instructional materials, which ultimately improved my confidence in handling diverse subjects.
My internship journey at Nursery High School was a transformative experience that strengthened my grasp of PPST Domain 1. From designing aligned assessments to delivering dynamic lessons, I realized that effective teaching requires both deep content knowledge and innovative pedagogical strategies. These experiences not only prepared me for the demands of the teaching profession but also instilled in me a commitment to continuous improvement. As I move forward, I aim to refine my skills further, ensuring that my future students receive engaging and meaningful learning experiences.

This internship taught me the importance of resilience and adaptability in teaching. Despite facing challenges such as unfamiliar technology, last-minute changes, and diverse student needs, I learned to approach each situation with creativity and determination. For instance, mastering Canvas for instructional materials and overcoming stage fright during demonstrations showed me that growth often lies outside my comfort zone. These experiences reinforced the idea that a teacher’s willingness to learn is just as important as their ability to teach.
I also gained a deeper appreciation for the connection between pedagogy and student engagement. Struggling to manage noisy classrooms or design modules for reluctant learners highlighted the need for tailored strategies. By observing how small adjustments—like positive reinforcement or interactive activities—could transform student participation, I realized that effective teaching is not one-size-fits-all. This insight will guide me in future classrooms, where I hope to cultivate an inclusive and motivating environment.
Lastly, the internship underscored the value of collaboration and self-reflection. Whether working with co-interns on projects or seeking feedback from mentors, I saw how collective wisdom enhances professional growth. At the same time, reflecting on my struggles—such as grading dilemmas or time management—helped me identify areas for improvement. Moving forward, I will carry these lessons with me, striving to be a teacher who not only imparts knowledge but also inspires and adapts to the ever-evolving educational landscape.
