Project Title: URBAN SOLID WASTE (MSW) TREATMENT AND FINAL DISPOSAL PLANT.
Company: Desarrollo Ingenieria Sustentable (DIS).
Client: Municipality of San Jeronimo.
Location: San Jeronimo, Córdoba, Argentina.
Date: June 2018.
Period: 6 months.
Develop, strategise, and execute an integrated solution for the management of municipal solid waste generated by a population of up to 2,000 inhabitants, adhering to current environmental legislation and sustainability principles.
My personal goal is to protect the future by designing sustainable solutions that balance nature with human progress, promoting healthier, more conscious, and resilient communities.
I carried out all the technical calculations to size the treatment plant, estimating the volume of waste generated per inhabitant/day and its annual projection.
I designed the landfill, determining the capacity, useful life, waterproofing, leachate drainage and biogas collection.
Prepared Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) by ISO 14001:2015, assessing associated impacts.
Developed the Sanitation and Environmental Education Programme, including a schedule of talks, content and evaluation for the population.
Planned the Waste Management applied to the site.
I drafted and presented the executive and constructive project, with plans, a technical report and budgets.
I supervised the execution of the work in the field as technical director.
Landfill dimensioning: I applied specific formulas considering the compacted density of MSW, the projected daily volume, and the trench system as a solution adapted to low volume.
Waterproofing of the land: I proposed a natural sealing system with clay soil, reinforced with an HDPE geomembrane to prevent infiltration into the water table.
Leachate and biogas management: I designed a system of drains, collector wells and passive ventilation to control the biogas generated.
Keeping up to date with regulations.
Balancing sustainability and costs.
Management of multiple projects simultaneously, in parallel, I carried out the Technical Advice for the water distribution works and also modified, delimited and created the urban ejido.
Community education: I implemented a schedule of technical talks tailored to the general public and operators, including separation at source, 3R, composting and safe handling.
The continuation of the open dump was prevented.
A scalable and low-cost solution was achieved for a rural community.
80% of the inhabitants were trained on separation at source.
The system had a projected lifespan of more than 10 years, with the possibility of extension.
Regulations: ISO 14001:2015. Provincial Law No. 9088 (MSW - Cordoba). Argentine National Constitution, Art. 41. IRAM.

ABOUT THE PROJECT
A safe final disposal system was implemented, eliminating the open dump.
Environmental management was improved, and the community was trained in sustainable practices.
The solution was effective, economical and replicable.
Safe operation and a significant improvement in local quality of life were ensured.
ABOUT ME
I learned to lead all stages of a complex project, from technical design to environmental and social management.
I strengthened my skills in planning, environmental regulations and communication with the community.
This experience consolidated my profile as an integral engineer, capable of developing sustainable solutions adapted to local contexts.
