This project involved designing a rugged, injection-molded keyfob enclosure for the Adafruit 4-button RF remote PCB, inspired by the Land Rover Defender. The keyfob body is engineered entirely from ABS plastic, optimized for injection molding with proper draft angles, consistent wall thicknesses, and no undercuts. The design reflects Defender’s utilitarian yet refined aesthetic, with functional button layout, durable detailing, and seamless integration of graphics and branding.
Brand Alignment: Reflect Land Rover Defender’s rugged, functional design language through form, color, and material choices
Injection Moldability: Ensure all parts follow injection molding guidelines: draft, uniform walls, no undercuts
Compact Packaging: Fit all internal components, including PCB and batteries, within a small, pocketable footprint
Button Functionality: Enable 1–4 tactile button zones with responsive feel
Ease of Maintenance: Design for accessible battery replacement and robust enclosure fastening
Graphic Integration: Include embossed or debossed icons and branding that match Defender’s industrial visual identity

The Land Rover Defender blends rugged utility with modern sophistication. Its design emphasizes function-first geometry, durable materials, and bold, minimal detailing. Exterior and interior elements feature a mix of exposed fasteners, matte textures, and modular forms, evoking a sense of capability and adventure. The aesthetic is clean, purposeful, and confident—designed to perform in extreme environments while maintaining a refined presence.
These images show a draft analysis of the injection-molded parts, each drafted at 2 degrees to ensure proper release from the mold. Green areas indicate sufficient draft angles, while red highlights faces with minimal or no draft.
The keyfob design draws from the Land Rover Defender’s rugged yet refined aesthetic. Its clean, geometric form reflects the Defender’s function-driven design language. The button layout is intentionally minimal and spaced for tactile usability. Subtle embossing, a strong shadow gap, and contrasting textures echo the bold, modular construction and durable finishes seen throughout the Defender’s interior and exterior.
