Function
It does not have to actually hold something. It can function solely as a sculpture.

Use one of the three handbuilding techniques (coil, pinch, or slab)
Idea
Create an interpretation of your quote. How will you use clay to convey the idea, feeling, or message you choose?
Size
Minimum: Vessel must be at least as big as your two fists put together
Maximum: Vessel must still fit inside either your bucket or on a project plate

1) Choose your quote.
Draw your inspiration from your favorite poets, books, songs, etc.
Consider writing that uses strong sensory language, and vivid imagery.
Your quote can be used to inspire you to create a form that represents an idea or something that evokes a certain feeling.
2) Create 3 thumbnails based on your idea.
As you draw, consider the handbuilding technique that would work best to carry out your design.
You can use mind-mapping to brainstorm the imagery you want to create.
Remember, you should use texture: additive, subtractive, impressive.
Your form can be a more literal representation of the idea or message you choose to convey, or it can appear more abstract. See the "Inspiration" page for further explanation on this.
3) Choose the thumbnail that is your best idea, and take it to Miss Espinosa for approval. Be prepared to discuss your answers to the proposal questions in #4 below.
4) Complete the "Idea Proposal" discussion board post on Schoology:

I chose this quote because although it is a strong and unnerving statement, it simply is talking about the idea of human potential for both good and evil. We are capable of goodness and also of evil. It is thought provoking, but I think it is important to consider our potentialities. It reflected the very introspective mindset I was in at the time.

I chose this particular design because I wanted the spaces to convey a sense of openness to compliment the idea of potential for both good and evil. Visually, I think they also balance out the composition with negative and positive spaces. I want there to be a mix of geometric and organic form, and something to make the box feel more figurative. This design is abstracted because it takes elements of observable things in nature, like feet shaped piercings and snakes, and changes them to fit the concept.

I chose to use a slab building approaching because I was making a box. The original project was to create a box that held something. I was more interested in creating a box that "held" an idea.
It didn't necessarily matter to me if the box was strictly functional, but I could imagine using it as a candle holder, with the pierced spaces creating interesting shapes on the wall.
