What Will We Be Making?

You will create a vessel or hollow sculpture inspired by literature/a quote.
It does not have to actually hold something. It can function solely as a sculpture.
Use one of the three handbuilding techniques (coil, pinch, or slab).
Create an interpretation of your quote. How will you use clay to convey the idea, feeling, or message you choose?

Example of a Painting Inspired by Poetry
Irises at Yatsuhashi (Eight-Plank Bridge) c. 1710-1715
This Japanese painter, Ogata Korin, (1658–1716) made this painting directly referencing a love poem in the story "Tales of Ise," written by Ariwara no Narihira (825–880).
“I have a wife as familiar to me as the hem of this well-worn robe and thus these distant travels darken my heart with sorrow."
In the story, Narihira describes how he was exiled from his city of Kyoto and paused next to an eight-plank-bridge, with irises growing in the march, to write this poem.
