A robot to pick up and install heavy solar panels
Installing solar panels is difficult. This design concept makes installation easier through automation, thereby encouraging more people to make the leap to going solar. The robot uses infrared line following and sonic distance sensing to navigate to buildings and can place solar panels on roofs of varying angles.

Components were designed in SolidWorks and 3D Printed on Ender 3 with PLA filament.
Two-stage gear transmission is used to increase the torque produced by a servo motor to lift the crane.
The amount of force required to grip the solar panel was calculated based on the claw dimensions and the weight of the solar panel.
