Before you can add soil to your refrigerator garden you have to remove the unused parts of the refrigerator. Removing the compressor and other parts can be Hazardous! Please seek additional information before attempting to remove and recycle parts!
After you have deconstructed your refrigerator all that should remain is the shell and the freezer door. The fridge door, all shelving, and parts that make the refrigerator run should be removed. Make sure there is a drainage hole in the bottom of the refrigerator.
To help your soil with drainage and moisture retention fill your refrigerator compartment 1/3 full with sticks and leaves.
Fill your refrigerator with soil until soil level is 2 inches from the top of the refrigerator, use the information below to chose you soil blend.
Our soil mix is:
1/3 Niu Organic Hawaiian Soil
1/3 Vermiculite
1/3 Organic Raised Bed & Potting Mix

We also recommend adding a simple 10/10/10 fertilizer to your soil blend. The numbers on a fertilizer bag represent the percentage of three key nutrients: Nitrogen (N), Phosphorus (P), and Potassium (K), in that order.
