Recycled Refrigerator Garden Beds
We are a non-profit organization and our mission is to build a network of volunteers to help people who are food insecure, with limited transportation, get a refrigerator garden bed to grow their own food, and build healthy eating habits for the future.
Our service area is the Kaʻū district of the Big Island of Hawai'i.
Our neighborhood volunteers collect junk refrigerators, safely deconstruct and recycle unused parts, grow seedlings, and install refrigerator garden beds on people's properties.
The refrigerator section of our gardens are planted with fruits and vegetables that can be grown year-round and the freezer section is for composting.
We educate people on how to grow food in their refrigerator garden beds, compost food scraps, harvest, and prepare delicious, healthy recipes to cook with the vegetables they grow. Our refrigerator gardens are designed to create a complete growing cycle that can produce fresh vegetables for decades.
