In June 2013 I started a ketogenic diet after a friend told me about Gary Taubes' book, Why We Get Fat and What to Do About It. That book changed my life! Since that time, I've lost over 120 lbs and maintained that lost. What began as an effort to lose weight was the beginning of an incredible journey to health. Within a year, I was no longer taking prescription medications for my back, hormone supplement, or daily over the counter anti-inflammatory medications for pain. For the first time in my life, I am able to shop in mainstream stores that do not have plus-sized clothing, and more importantly, I am able to do activities that I could not do before with my family.

I weighed over 250 lbs before I started keto. I was nearly always left behind by what I couldn't do because of significant back pain. My daughter was developing the same unhealthy eating habits I had, and we were not a healthy or active family. These photos remind me of the time I lost being able to do things with them when they were so little.
