Browse ebook editions of a variety of culturally themed cookbooks using Sora, our e-book platform.
Access the e-books at the Cookbook Culture page on the library website (right-hand column). Notice the option to: Read Sample. Remember to log in to Sora using your 5-digit student ID number. If needed, use the instructions for Sora.
As you browse the books, complete a Book Browse chart. You will use this chart to notice themes across the cookbooks and to choose cookbooks for a cookbook review.
3B. Many of today's popular cultural cookbook authors are on TikTok, Twitter, and Instagram. Can you find any authors of interest on these platforms? What do you notice about their postings? Add this to your Book Browse chart.
List and explain your cookbooks of interest by completing this form.
This course features a review of two cookbooks of your choice. For each cookbook, you will write a professional/industry-style multimedia review.
Review the cookbook review instructions and rubric.
Review and save the cookbook review PowerPoint template. Share it back with Ms. Gleason by email.
Select and borrow a cookbook from Sora. Access the e-books at the Cookbook Culture page on the library website.
Read/review your cookbook and complete the cookbook review. Remember to consult the rubric and instructions.
Repeat steps 3-4 for a second cookbook review.
Now that you have completed writing two cookbook reviews, take some time to read and discuss others’ reviews. This is a chance to exchange ideas and impressions about the cookbooks you selected to review.
Read and skim two+ of your classmates’ cookbook reviews & one published review of one of the cookbooks you read. Feel free to read more.

Participate in a group discussion in person and with Google Jamboard.
Apply the personal, ethnic, & cultural approaches used in these cookbooks to a recipe of your own. These recipes will be combined into a class cookbook.
Choose a family or personal favorite to share. Prepare in advance by reviewing the ingredients and cooking instructions. Use this template (save a copy for your files).
Add your recipe and corresponding images to our class cookbook on Book Creator. Get the class code from Ms. Gleason (QYZLLDF).
Consult with the culinary arts & hospitality chefs to prepare, cook and serve a recipe of your choice in the school's District Restaurant Cafés.
Choose to prepare, cook, and serve either your personal recipe (written up above) OR a recipe from one of your cookbook reviews.
Serve this dish in the school's District Restaurant or Cafe.
Provide and post a QR code so that customers can access your cookbook review or personal recipe.
4. Take pictures of your process of cooking and serving. Include a picture of the QR code that you put on display.
Write or record a reflection about this project.
Include the following:
A) Respond to one item of your choice from the reflection wheel. Feel free to spin for a random choice, or make your selection.
B) Complete a 3-2-1 with:

Two things you enjoyed
One thing you would change AND/OR one question you have
Post the reflection to your Project Showcase site.
Sign into your school account on Adobe Creative Cloud Express and start a new presentation.
Include the following in your Adobe Creative Cloud Express site:
A) Title: Cookbook Culture: Cookbook Reviews, Recipes, Images, and Reflection
B) Byline: by [your Name, Culinary Arts & Hospitality, Year of Graduation]
C) Links to your two Cookbook Reviews. Include images of the books or screenshot of your reviews.
E) Link to your Personal Recipe. Include an image such as a screenshot of the recipe, class recipe book, or final cooked product.
F) Cook and Serve: Provide a brief explanation of the personal or selected recipe you served in the school's district cafe. Include images.
G) Post your Reflection (see prompts above).
