There are several ways you can support the Connecting Through Cards effort.Â
First, consider adopting a retirement home. You can make these cards at home! Adopting a retirement home is a way for you to provide cards to the residents on your own time! You can make as many cards as you'd like, for as many holidays as you'd like, and then provide them to the retirement homes as a little card shop that they can take from for free! Seniors then have the opportunity to take as many or as few cards as they'd like to send to their loved ones!
Second, run card making workshops for seniors at retirement homes! By running card making workshops, you're providing intergenerational connection for the residents! This is a way for the residents to feel more connected to their community, both within the reitrement home, and out! It offers them the opportunity to work on a new skill and meet new people! All you have to do is bring your card making materials, and offer help if it's needed. We've found that it's best to pick 1-3 cards for a holiday and bring the supplies and examples for those particular cards!
Third, want to provide a lot of cards? Start a Connecting Through Cards club at your school or in your community! Creating a club offers the opportunity for students and/or members of your community to earn service hours! These workshops can be very social for the volunteers, since making cards doesn't require everyone's complete attention! Hosting these clubs would be very similar to the retirement home workshops, since all you have to do is bring the mateirals, examples, and offer assitance! You're using the volunteers to make a difference in your community through the making of these cards!
