Georgey's First Kiss

Eight-year-old Georgey Peorgey was the sweetest little boy on the block. He was also a bit of a romantic, and all he wanted was his very first kiss. So much so, that he covered his notebooks with doodles of little red and pink hearts.

Then, one day, Georgey decided to set out to get his first kiss. So every day, when he went to the playground, Georgey asked another girl if he could kiss her on the cheek. He thought, "Maybe if someone lets me kiss them on the cheek, they will want to kiss me in return." But whenever he asked, the girl would either run away or cry from laughing so hard. This made Georgey very sad. Why didn't the other girls like him?

One day, all the little girls on the playground made up a song to tease Georgey with. And anytime Georgey came up to talk to them, they sang it very loudly:

Georgey's made of snaps and snails!

Snaps and snails and puppy dog tails!

Girls are made of sugar and spice!

Sugar and spice and everything nice!

Eventually, the girls started singing it every time they saw Georgey at playground. They sang this so often that anytime Georgey saw the girls coming, he ran away.

However, there was one little girl who didn't partake in all the teasing and mocking: Lucy Lacey. Lucy lived right across the alleway from Georgey and was always kind to him. She would walk with him to the playground and, whenever the girls made him run away, she would run after him and walk with him home. Then, one day, Lucy had just about enough of their teasing. When the girls came to the playground and started singing their snide song, Lucy, boiling with anger, decided to give them a piece of her mind.

"Leave Georgey alone! You don't know anything about him! He has more kindness in his pinky then you all do in your whole bodies! How would you feel if everyone started calling you names?? It would hurt your feelings, and it hurts his feeling too!"

She then took Georgey by the hand and marched away.

On their way home, Georgey said, "Thanks for sticking up for me, Lucy."

"Of course. No one talks to my friend that way," said Lucy. "So, what shall we do now?"

Georgey paused for a moment. He knew what he wanted to say, but was very hesitant to say it. Then, he took a deep breath.

"Lucy?"

"Yes, Georgey?"

He paused again, taking another deep breath before asking, "May I kiss you on the cheek?"

Lucy thought for a moment, then said, "Yes. Yes, you may." Then, as Georgey leaned over to kiss her on the cheek, Lucy turned her head and quickly kissed him on the lips.

Caught off guard, Georgey's face turned bright red from blushing. Lucy was blushing a little too. The two then walked the rest of way home holding hands, Georgey beaming with happiness because he finally got his first kiss.

And they lived happily ever after.

Author's Note: This is a compilation of the nursery rhymes "Georgey Peorgey," "What Are Little Boys Made Of?" and "Boy and Girl." The original nursery rhymes are listed below.

At first, I had no idea what I was going to do for this part of my storybook. When looking through nursery rhymes, the first of these rhymes that caught my attention was "Georgey Peorgey." I assume it's about an annoying little boy who likes to make girls cry, but I thought it would be sweet if it were about a little boy who just wants a girl to like him. So, in my story, I had the girls cry from laughing, instead of just crying, so that we would have more sympathy for Georgey. I altered the rhyme "What Are Little Boys Made Of?" to be a song that the little girls use to tease Georgey with and make him run away, like he does in the nursery rhyme. To keep with the 'happy endings' theme of my storybook, I also wanted there to be a little girl who kisses Georgey at the end. Then I came across "Boy and Girl" and thought that it would be a perfect fit. And since the rhyme doesn't give the little girl a name, I decided to name her Lucy Lacey simply because it sounds good with Georgey Peorgey.

Original Nursery Rhymes:

Georgey Peorgey:

Georgey Peorgey, pudding and pie,

Kissed the girls and made them cry;

When the girls come out to play,

Georgey Porgey runs away.

Boy and Girl:

There was a little boy and a little girl

Lived in an alley;

Says the little boy to the little girl,

"Shall I, oh! shall I?"

Says the little girl to the little boy,

"What shall we do?"

Says the little boy to the little girl,

"I will kiss you."

What Are Little Boys Made Of:

What are little boys made of, made of;

What are little boys made of?

"Snaps and snails, and puppy-dogs' tails;

And that's what little boys are made of, made of."

What are little girls made of, made of, made of;

What are little girls made of?

"Sugar and spice, and all that's nice;

And that's what little girls are made of, made of."
