Professor Kim received his B.S. and M.S. in Architectural Engineering from Inha University, and completed his Ph.D in Civil Engineering from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, USA, where he had also worked as a Post-Doctoral Research Fellow. His research interests are design and analysis of reinforced/precast/ prestressed concrete structures, and also include composite structures, earthquake engineering, fire engineering, damage assessment, non-destructive testing methods, applications of advanced materials, AI, and other expert systems. With many years of experiences in applied researches and practical projects, he has published more than 200 journal papers, including 147 papers in SCIE journals, and has been honored with many awards such as the Best Paper Award in Science and Engineering from Korean Federation of Science and Technology Societies (KOFST), Munho Academic Excellence Award from Korean Concrete Institute (KCI), Charles C. Zollman Award from Precast/Prestressed Concrete Institute (PCI), etc. He is a vice-chairman of the Korea Concrete Institute (KCI), chairman of the Scientific Committee of the Architectural Institute of Korea (AIK), and a member of the Central Construction Technology Evaluation Committee, Ministry of Land, Infrastructure, and Transport (MOLIT), South Korea. He also served as Dean of the Office of Research Affairs, President of UOS Industry Cooperation Foundation, Director of UOS Startup Business Support Platform, and Department Head of Architectural Engineering at the University of Seoul. He is currently the Dean of the College of Urban Science and Director of the Institute of Urban Sciences at the University of Seoul.
