Gradebook
The grade book for band should be viewed through Canvas only. Do not use Student View via Synergy. Synergy is now being used as an end of grading period tool for final grades. All daily work and current grade status should be viewed through Canvas.
Grading Scale
All grading will take place on a 1-4 grading scale as follows
1- I show little understanding of the skill or concept. I have shown little or no effort.
2- I show that I am starting to understand the skill but need more time to reach proficiency. The student displays effort.
3- I show that I understand the skill but I make some errors. I am on grade level
4- I show mastery of the skill and my work is exemplary. I am performing above grade level expectations
Performing/Skill Objectives
You will have the opportunity to show off your instrumental skills by completing "skill objectives". Skill objectives will take place through Smartmusic, through Canvas submission, live in class and in concert. Concert attendance is mandatory for all students. Excused absences will not be given for conflicts with sports practices or not having a ride. With over 200 students in the band program, students are surely able to find a ride to our after-school events.
1- I did not complete the required playing test, put forth no effort, or did not attempt the assignment.
2- I put effort into my playing test but my performance had multiple errors
3- I put effort into my playing test and had only minimal errors.
4- I put in effort and performed flawlessly.
Ensemble Skill
Individual participation in each rehearsal is extremely important to our ensemble's success. Band is a team sport, a group of people performing a physical activity with a common goal. Proper rehearsal etiquette is a key indicator of a successful band. Individually students learn self-control, discipline, and how to be good teammates. Each student is responsible for their part so we can collectively rehearse together in meaningful ways.
1- I often do not bring my instrument/music to rehearsal and/or am regularly disruptive.
2- I forget my supplies sometimes and need reminders not to disrupt rehearsal.
3- I rarely forget my supplies and am a positive influence in rehearsal.
4- I always have my supplies and display strong leadership qualities in rehearsal.
