The inspiration for the book starts with my mother-in-law. Well into her forties she decided to go back to school for screen writing. She had always loved to write and create versified advice. She had a big heart and considered me her daughter, even though it caused confusion when introduced me that way. She always said that I was a seed that she wanted to water, tending me like a plant to help me grow. I was only sixteen and appreciated having a bonus mom. One day she told me about a character she couldn’t stop thinking about. She felt like she knew her and needed to share her story. However, shortly after she told me this, she had diabetic complications that made her legally blind, and she was never able to write a story for her character. But she didn’t stop being a wonderful mother who was determined to keep doing the things she loved, like tending to her roses even when she couldn’t see them, she felt where the flowers were and pruned as needed. Sadly, she never got to write again; she slipped into a coma and passed away. In my grief, I remembered her story and chose to pick up where she left off and write it for her.
