The Community Mobility Reports show movement trends by region, across different categories of places. For each category in a region, reports show the changes in 2 different ways
Headline number: Compares mobility for the report date to the baseline day. Calculated for the report date (unless there are gaps) and reported as a positive or negative percentage.
Trend graph: The percent changes in the 6 weeks before the report date. Shown as a graph.
No personally identifiable information, such as an individual’s location, contacts or movement, will be made available at any point. These reports are created with aggregated, anonymized sets of data from users who have turned on the Location History setting, which is off by default.
The data shows how visitors to (or time spent in) categorized places change compared to our baseline days. A baseline day represents a normal value for that day of the week. The baseline day is the median value from the 5‑week period Jan 3 – Feb 6, 2020.
Each category contains many types of places—some might not be obvious.

From mobility data mostly, we can predict how people’s economy was affected by covid 19 this is very critical for communities of minority, low-income, tribal, and indigenous populations. most tribal and minority people in Sri Lanka are a low income population (There are a limited number of wealthy people in minority communities) . We can use mobility data to see how covid 19 effects in people's economy.
We can use mobility data to see how people move around the country to their day today activities. Our group is from Sri Lanka therefore we use sri lankas’ mobility data to see how communities of minority, low-income, tribal, and indigenous populations affect COVID-19.
As a developing country most Sri lankan people work on daily paid jobs from those people who work for daily salary most of them are low income people.
Due to covid 19 pandemic situation most people had to stayed at home as data shown in in residential percentage which means how many people stayed home in time period was always at positive side that mean the most of people stayed home than normal value for that day of the week
The above chart shows people who stayed at home during 1st January 2021.the peaks mostly can be weekends but overall most people stayed at home. The increasing residential percentage because of the moving restrictions by the government.
For low income people staying home is not a good situation because they have to go out and find their income or if they couldn’t go for their job their job will be lose because of that most low income people affects during those restriction due to covid 19 and also not only that stay in home for long time is not healthy for humans because humans are social beings.it is very stressful for humans because of that the mental health could fail
And also, when we turned to transits station percentage which means people use public transport
Most sri lankan use railways and bus as public transport although in sri lanka there are no subway stations and domestic airlines in sri lanka air ports are only use for migration except air force
By the way, from the flowchart we see a big amount of data on both sides of the baseline.
The peek on April because of new year festival in April 11th government remove restriction low because of new year festival because of that most people came to Colombo for jobs went back to their hometowns this is the most probable way to increase using transit stations in middle of April.
According to the annual report of the Central bank of Sri Lanka in 2020 Sri Lankas’ transport incomes decrease in 2020. In sri lanka there are two types of bus services private sector and government sector when we talking about bus services bus drivers and conductors get low in come if they earn lot because most private buses are belong to a several companies or a person because of that bus drivers and conductors only get a percentage as their income so most of them are low income people and as we see decrease of using transport is affect badly on their income
These data are taken from 2020 but in 2021 as we see from the upper chart it also has a decrease of using transports so we can predict in 2021 also had the same problems for those who work in the transportation sector. There is another group of people affected because of lack of transport mostly in rural areas in Sri Lanka there are only one or two bus trips a day. Due to covid 19 pandemic, when transportations down those people are stuck in their villages and get no chance to reach towns for their supplies because of that also low-income, tribal, and indigenous population are affected that may lead to a change of their lifestyle.
And also looking at the grocery and pharmacy percentage also proves that most people couldn’t buy their supplies because of this government permit to sell supplies by visiting villages and homes and pharmacies use mail to send medicine. But this is not well suited to low income people because when supplies came to doorstep you had to pay for them maybe little more than buy groceries. For low income people this is not practical because most of them didn’t have much money left in their houses.
because of covid 19 pandemic the prices of a goods are increased and that also cause in a negative impact in low income people
Another thing is most of low-income people buy their goods daily as seen in above chart the grocery percentage decrease that mean the people who visited them day today was decreased it can be happened because of several things such as lockdowns people couldn’t make out from home
And for 2021 we can assure that this problem will be continued
And when we turn to workplaces the people who came to the workplaces are reduced by government and also because of the lockdowns also decreases the people who came to work as we mentioned in above most low incomes works in daily paid jobs and because of restriction laws most of them could not be able to go for their work because of that the income was go down that’s leads to all the problem
As this chart the workplaces percentage was low 2021 so far,
as of the annual report of 2020 issued by the Central bank of Sri Lanka, the unemployment rate will grow in 2020. the labor force participation and employed rate has gone down. Most of Sri lankan low income people used to depart for foreign employment specially to Arabic countries but in 2020 this number was decreased and that was a big effect in low income families. And other thing is the people who worked in overseas are came to sri lanka due to covid 19 and they couldn’t return to their jobs again.
Finally, these economic data are for 2020 according to 2020 annual report of central bank sri lanka and we get EO dashboard 2021 data and predict what are the changes of human activity in communities of minority, low-income, tribal, and indigenous populations as a result of COVID-19 In economical side.
As a developing country Sri Lanka and its people are facing a lot of challenges during covid 19 and it is getting harder because at the moment the covid 19 patients are growing rapidly. Sri Lanka’s economy contracted by 3.6 percent in 2020, the worst growth performance on record, as is the case in many countries fighting the pandemic. Swift measures enacted by the government in the second quarter helped contain the first wave of COVID-19 successfully, but these measures hit sectors like tourism, construction, and transport especially hard, while collapsing global demand impacted the textile industry. Job and earning losses disrupted private consumption and uncertainty impeded investment. The economy began to recover in the third quarter as the first wave was brought under control and containment measures were relaxed. The momentum continued in the fourth quarter as the economy was broadly kept open despite a second wave of COVID-19 infections.
Summary
When we looking at mobility data, we can see how people behaviors cased to covid 19 directly in sri lanka the careless behaviors of people cased to the growing of covid 19 when we analyzing deeply, we see that we must behave carefully to avoid covid 19. when we turned into low-income, tribal, and indigenous populations they are the most affected group from covid 19 there are many reasons as a country sri lanka facing not only health problem but also economical problem. This was the main reason that we tell the low-income people are the most affected by covid 19
The covid 19 is heavily affecting on economy of communities of minority, low-income, tribal, and indigenous populations while affecting whole country. Most of day to day activities are change due to this situation however as a country sri lanka in a critical point
However, we cannot assume this predictions and conclusions are not 100% accurate because basically these data are for whole country and its people in our challenge we had to concern only about communities of minority, low-income, tribal, and indigenous populations as usually these people percentage was small in number but as a country sri lanka is a low-income country therefor comparing to other some countries these data were not much different.
