Rural communities throughout Guatemala are struggling to respond to the impacts of both present-day pressures while also reconciling with the country's past. Scars of the country's civil war are still fresh & very much evident within its borders - impacting those most vulnerable & underserved.
While communities navigate a climate crisis, affordable housing/property rights, access to healthcare & education, food insecurity, & gender & indigenous equity issues - residents are responding to the root cause - spatial justice.
While the country faces immense challenges ahead, through hope & resiliency rural populations are developing community-based efforts to preserve their homes.
Using design as a tool for advocacy, they're leaving their mark on the world - & creating pathways for future success.
