Richard Evonitz (he/him) was elected to the District 219 Board of Education in 2017 and is seeking a second term starting in 2021. During his time on the District 219 Board, he has:
Advocated for and implemented a plan to eliminate the District’s long-term debt, resulting in lower tax levies and saving property taxpayers millions of dollars in interest payments.
Helped navigate the District through this pandemic and has a go-forward plan to address the educational and social-emotional gaps caused due to remote learning.
Encouraged our Superintendent to address systemic racism and inequality by hiring leaders and developing programs to address achievement gaps among students of various backgrounds.
Rich has deep roots in this community – he and his family moved to Skokie in 1998, just before the birth of his daughter, Taylor, who graduated from Niles North in 2016. He has been active in this community, too:
From 2009-2017, he served as Board President of District 73 (East Prairie School) during which time he was one of the leaders of the effort to successfully fund and build a new school, which opened in the Fall of 2019.
Rich helped start the Larry Plotkin Scholarship Fund, which annually awards a scholarship to a Niles North senior who graduated from East Prairie; he still serves as the Chairperson for the Fund.
Rich is a licensed, practicing attorney for a not-for-profit corporation where he handles corporate and transactional matters. In his spare time, Rich runs marathons – six so far. His last one was the New York Marathon in November 2019.
