In this virtual, online environment, I aim to learn and develop best practices for online education. I wish to give you the very best education possible. I will create an equitable, accessible, and inclusive learning environment to empower and propel you towards success. That said, I do have academic standards that I strive to maintain in my curricular development and in the performance of my students.
We need each other in order to grow and succeed! As stated above, and in multiple locations in this syllabus, I will do all that I can to be an organized instructor and to communicate clearly and frequently. I expect you to approach this course as a mature adult, who is open to learning, growing, and achieving goals! As such, please strive to do the following:
Treat peers and faculty with dignity and respect. We disclose some personal information in this class and it is important to support and protect each other.
Encourage one another and be present to help someone who may need some extra support!
Be patient with tech hiccups. It happens, but we will work through it together.
Strive to be an active contributing member during our interactions online. Be thoughtful in responses and conversations.
Strive to meet due assignment due dates and deadlines
Learn from mistakes and grow! We cannot move forward if we beat ourselves up about a missed assignment or a low grade. What can you learn? How will you improve? Give yourself grace and keep on keeping on!
Finally, own your education. I do all that I can to support your educational journey, but in the end, it is your journey. What does this mean? You will only reap what you sow. Please do not make your circumstances and challenges my problem. I am an empathetic, supportive, and creative instructor and work with those who plan ahead and communicate with me accordingly, but there is only so much "bending" I can do. Please take charge of your circumstances and adopt a perspective that assumes that you are in charge of you!
