Ohlone College has provided a detailed document outlining your responsibility for both class and online behavior. The essential thesis of the policy is as follows: We want to engage in a safe environment where we can engage and learn free of threats, aggression, and disruption. If you feel that a peer is not following the rules outlined in this document, please email me right away.
Plagiarism occurs when someone passes off others' ideas as their own. This can occur in written papers or speeches. Often we comment accidental plagiarism when forgetting to cite our sources. It happens. Please let me know if you need clarification on how to cite in our speeches so you can avoid this!
However, sometimes plagiarism is intentional and often occurs for the following reasons:
We misunderstand the assignment and are shy about asking for help
Procrastination led us to pull something together through the art of copy and paste
We don't believe in our own ideas
First, always ask for help! With enough notice, we can chat via zoom so the assignment is clarified for you. Second, this a great time to figure out some time management skills! Let me know if you'd like some suggestions! Finally, your voice and ideas are important and needed in this world! Don't let anyone tell you otherwise!
Intentional Plagiarism results in a failed grade for that assignment as well as a chat with Academic Affairs. Please see this document, which explains the process.
